I like to keep it simple. Many will focus on the card count on both sides or the overall value of the cards on both sides, etc. I personally like to get as many cards in one transaction as I can as it reduces the cost of postage over multiple smaller transactions. For example, if someone sends me a trade proposal for two cards and they are not worth the cost of a stamp then I am going to look to expand the trade. If so, I will counter and add more cards to both sides of the proposal. If they decline that's fine, but I tried. The cards on my FST list are there for a reason...to acquire the other items I want. Most of what I have on my FST list is fair game as long as you're not asking for the moon for slice of cheese.

For me it's like the question of what is art... I don't know if I can tell you what is or isn't art, but I can tell you what I like.
There are trades that might be "fair" that just didn't strike me for whatever reason and other times when I feel like I'm channeling Monty Hall and just want to make a deal.
When I first was starting off on this site I was trying to use site values to balance trades when proposing offers but I saw a lot of people reject the offers so now instead of taking all that extra time I'll either go equal number of cards on both sides or eyeball that I try to have equal number of cards over $1 on both sides and close to the same number of under $1 cards. Or in recent offers, I'm trying to clear room and I'm looking to unload basketball, football and hockey so I'll put up 4 cards for everyone one or two I'm getting back, even if I'm giving up star cards. There are a couple cards I'm holding back but most I'd rather just clear out.

I just know when a trade feels good to me, as a rule I am less invested in cards on my trade list so less concerned about an "even" trade. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't trade a 52 Topps Mantle for a pile of junk wax wants but within reason I will usually accept or counter if I feel it needs adjusted

I got gaps. You got gaps. Together no gaps.

Like others have said I have some guidelines I try to stick with. Because I only collect hockey I usually will not trade any YG without getting any back. That being said it doesn’t mean I won’t except the offer. If the offer has a player from my PC or a card I have been trying to acquire then it is a good possibility that that guideline is out the window.

If you actually have something on my wantlist, and I have something you want (sometimes that includes money) then chances are a deal can be made. Most of the time in your favor.
