If you were looking at a horizontal card and were about to stack it with vertical cards, (ignoring the back) how would you place that card in the stack? Would you place the left of the card on the bottom or on the top? In my opinion, I prefer the left side of the card going on the bottom. I normally will look at the back orientation of the card and match it up with the rest of the set and sometimes I notice the card manufacturer will have chosen to essentially make the bottom of the card at the top.
For some reason, this is displeasing to my eye. Which way is a something horizontal supposed to be placed when adding it to a vertical stack? I'm sure there probably is no correct way technically, but what do you think?

Yeah, I think my first move would be to look at the back and have it match the portrait-oriented cards. If we're ignoring the backs, I think I agree with the left side going on the bottom.

If the back of the card is vertical, I rotate so the back is right side up vertically. If the set has horizontal backs and a mix of horizontal and vertical fronts, I rotate so the back matches the orientation on cards with a vertical front. If the set is fully horizontal front and back, I default to right side of the front rotated to top, left to bottom. Total personal preference.

It depends. Are you left-handed or right-handed. How do you shuffle through the cards? Do you hold stack in right hand and push cards to the left or vice versa? Where is the text/info on the horizontal card? If you're shuffling through a stack of cards and the horizontal cards text/info that you're looking for is never visible, then you have them oriented wrong.

Bottom front to the right, no matter what. Visual explainer:

Exception would be if I am trying to put a set in order.

I look at the back first. If it is vertical, I place it where the back is correct. If the back is horizontal as well, then I will do like many others here and place the left side of the card to the bottom where the bottom of the card is facing the right side. I have found that in most cases, this tends to line them up in a method for sorting like C2Cigars mentioned as I have them in my right hand and push them left. However, for the few stacks of larger sets I have, they are generally oriented to be the same direction back. Most of my cards are sorted alphabetically though so orienting by set doesn't occur as often for me. Just my personal preference but I don't think there is an actual correct method for it.

I have always done bottom to the right. But that doesn't always align with the back being right side up. In a binder album, that's fairly important. Though, to be honest, I don't really like horizontal cards. But I do know they have a place in the hobby and plenty of folks like them just fine.

He's asking about STACKING cards in a vertical stack. Not layout in a binder.

My personal foible is to align numbers on the back...
If Vertical cards have numbers at the top, then I match the
Horizontal cards where number is the same....
For me, it's just easier then I am confirming what cards I have for the set....
