I submitted a number of cards yesterday. The fronts went in just fine, but ALL of the backs were rejected for "watermarks". What does that mean? None of the cards had defects as far as I can tell.

A watermark is a mark that is put on to an image to mark its origination. So like all card images on COMC have a COMC logo watermark on the lower part of the image on the card. We do not allow watermark images to be listed here because the watermark denotes someone's ownership of the image.

That is odd because I own all of the cards in question and I scanned them myself. I certainly never watermarked them and I purchased them from a number of different sources.

Did you scan with a free online app? Some of those add watermarks.

I'm mostly organizing over adding right now.

Looking over what you submitted I'm trying to find anything that's actually watermarked. What I do see:
- On this one the back is incomplete and also not cropped on the left side, plus it looks like it may have been scanned in a toploader. If that's the case, definitely remove it from the toploader and try another scan
- This one, this one, and this one are also incomplete and not cropped on the left
- This one isn't cropped and looks to be super crooked
So I guess the question is, how are you scanning and cropping your cards? You should never scan them in toploaders/sleeves because those can cause reflections, plus you should try to scan them as straight as possible, and if they aren't quite straight after the scan, it's on you to use an app like PhotoScape to rotate them so they're correct before uploading them here. I also highly recommend doing all cropping before uploading here because the crop functionality is fairly simple (on purpose) and doesn't give you a way to make small rotation adjustments to allow you to properly crop.
Check all that and please report back if you need any help, otherwise I'll try to keep an eye out on the queue for any you replace to see how they look and approve them if they're correct.

Just as an example, here's one you just uploaded that's still in the queue:

This clearly shouldn't be tagged as "watermarked" but it's too crooked to be cropped properly. If you can't line the card up on the glass straight (which I can't ever really do myself either) you need to rotate it a few degrees in an app, and then I still recommend you crop it in the same app. That gives you a good look at it so you can spot obvious stuff like this before uploading and make sure your scans will get approved.

And remove them from the penny sleeves.
-------------------------------
Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I was the one to reject those backs. As others have said the scans were only half there, and I also know you are not to blame or at fault. Your back scans were complete, but there is a glitch in the system somewhere when some users upload and then the card is cropped using the site system a large portion of the card goes missing. You can tell when you are an image approver and you try and recrop, or crop the original, the colour around the newly cropped card is green and not light blue. I tried re doing the ones affected and cropping one of yours that was yet touched, and each time only half the card would appear.
As to why I marked them as watermarked, if I would have marked them "incomplete" believe it or not the system would have still uploaded them to the card's page and those half scans would be sitting there. Watermarked turfs bad scans automatically.
Hope that explanation helps. Again I, and now anyone reading this, will know your scans were complete, but it was a system error.

Thank you for the explanation. In the queue, they are cut in half. However, I clicked on several of them and they show fully complete. i don't know what else to do. The gold variation went in just fine, but most of the other ones failed.

As rmpaq5 mentioned, this is a system error so nothing you did wrong, it just ocassionally happens. But as FreehanSolo said, they best thing you could do is crop them according to the site guidelines before you submit them. The glitch happens when another member has to crop them using the site tool. If the approvers only have to approve your image and not crop it, there is no issue.
