Good Q. Do you mean retired after 1988 or debuted after 1988?

Based on what happened on the field I got to go with Curt Schilling:
79.5 bWAR, 216 W, 3.46
Postseason: 19 GS, 11-2, 2.23
World Series: 7 GS, 4-1, 2.06

Baseball, Jim Abbott
rationale: 1988 gold medal Olympics, 1993 no-no w/yankees, 3rd in voting for a Cy Young I think in 89. Finally, he’s a one handed major league pitcher who could also bat. I realize he didn’t put up HOF numbers, but c’mon all in all he’s deserving in my mind.

Definitely biased as he was my favorite growing up, but Kenny Lofton
Led AL in stolen bases 1992-1996, 15th all time
I think the problem with a player like Lofton is he was moved around to teams too much but he ended with a 68.4 WAR which is in top 15 all time for center fielders.

Albert Belle
he averaged 37 homers and 120 rbi a year from 1991 to 2000, his ops+ for his career was 144, he may have corked his bat, he may have had absolutely horrible interactions and moments on the field, but he could hit and did so better than most everyone else during his time 295/369/564

Miguel Cabrera will be a first ballot HOFer. Do I really need to explain why?

Definitely agree...now if those who vote can put his off-field life aside then he'd probably get in.
