I was wondering how many collectors would still collect if cards with worth almost nothing? Say you could get a real '52 Mantel for $5 or a T206 Wagner for $10. Basically cards are as valuable as they were in the 60's and 70's.
I for one would still collect. If the Hobby collapsed tomorrow, I would only feel somewhat sad about the $ I spent because now I could get them even cheaper.

I'd love it if they weren't worth much. I could buy so many more. The fun for me is putting a set together, not how much I can sell it for afterward.

I would keep collecting to build every set out there.

As of now I will always be collecting. Who know as time goes by.
Prices go up I buy less.
Prices go down I buy more.
I buy mainly on COMC. More than once I buy a card for $1 and a few weeks later someone has it for sale at $.50. Then I come across a card I got for a $1 and now everyone is asking $2.75. That is life win some loss some.

Follow my blog - I Identify as a Card Collector. “Aslan didn't tell Pole what would happen. He only told her what to do. That fellow will be the death of us once he's up, I shouldn't wonder. But that doesn't let us off following the signs.” - Puddleglum in The Silver Chair by C. S. Lewis

Absolutely. To me, the personal meaning by far outweighs the monetary value. I'd love to own at least one set from every year of the NBA etc. so I can look back on them & remember players, games, moments - I do that now with my 90s 'junk wax' cards & continue to chase those sets here. Learn about the players who were before my time. I'd love to own a Jordan rookie. I'd love to own cards signed by of all of the all-time great players. Cards are another way for me to connect with things that are important to me.
It is somewhat of a comfort to know that I do have some cards that have perceived value & can be sold off if I need money, but if the hobby 'goes to zero' I'd be getting as much as possible from people dumping their cards.

I would still collect without a doubt. It would be so much nicer to not have to worry about cost being an issue and just collecting the cards you like.

Most of the cards I own are already worth almost nothing, so in the magical world you describe, I would just have even more cards in my collection.
