For my primary collection (PC of Ted Musgrave), I include any card where he or his car are clearly identifiable, or he is mentioned by name, or is a card of his car's owner or crew member. In the case of car owner Jack Roush, I only include cards that acknowledge the #16 car. I omitted any Roush cards that only mention Mark Martin or the #6 car.
My "Ted Musgrave Collection..." user lists accurately reflect my collection.
I also have a somewhat separate collection that I call my Quasi-Musgraves. These are mostly checklist cards that have Ted's name on them but don't really document any portion of his career, other than the fact that he was on a card in that set. There's also a few cards in this collection that have pictures of him or his car that have been blurred or obscured, thus don't meet the 'clearly visible' criteria for inclusion in my main collection. There's also a couple items in there that have his name on them in error.
When I first started collecting, I thought it would be neat to have 1,000 cards in my Musgrave collection. Since he doesn't have that many cards that he is the main subject of, I had to get creative about what to include. It's been fun hunting out the cameos and mentions, and now I do have just over 1,000 cards in that collection.
