In the time I have been a member of this board (~2020), I have encountered some unusual traders. Most of them have not surprised me, but a few have. Specifically the ones that only want to trade vintage cards for vintage cards... or will only trade parallel and inserts for other parallels and inserts.
My attitude has always been very simple... I have some cards in my collection that I do not want and those go on my Sale/Trade list. I have specific cards that I want for my collection and those are in my WantList. If I have a card that you want, and you have a card that I want, I see no issue with offering such as a proposed trade.
Am I wrong to have this attitude?

I agree with your sentiment, which is why I preface in my profile that I will consider all trades. But I also state that my preference is to trade base for base, insert for insert, etc. I do this because what has happened on several occasions now is that a trader wants inserts and they offer to trade base cards on a 1 for 1 rate, which is rarely if ever equal value. I have however on several occasions now accepted trades where I sent out inserts for base cards, but I evaluate them on a case by case basis.

I agree that if the trade is unbalanced, it is a No-Go.
I had a person over a year ago propose a trade with me that gave me three cards on my wantlist for only one in return. But the one card they wanted was 10 times the value of the three commons they were offering. (FYI, I declined the trade)

I feel the same way. I try to make offers that are appealing to my trading partner. When I am made an offer, I have no problem trading a patch or auto for the cards I need, within reason. Simply put, if it's on my tradelist, I don't want it. I have plenty of baseball and hockey on my tradelist and I don't collect those sports. I have a few basketball but I only collect Shaq. I try to update my tradelist so that I have a better chance of trading for what I need.

No right or wrong way. Each to his own is the way I think. Am I willing to do that trade or is he willing to do that trade. One can always ask.
There are many that trade differently.
1. Number of cards has to be the same.
2. Price has to be the same.
3. The sport has to be the same.
4. Trade has to be worth postage.
5. No PWEs
6. The number of cards has to be over an amount. (No small trades.)
7. Type of cards has to be the same.
8. Only in USA
I'm sure there are others.

I have been a part of nearly all of those reasons to deny a trade...
While it does discourage me a bit when I have what I consider a fair trade proposal rejected, I have to remember that at the end of the day, a person's cards are their own and they can trade or not trade them and they really do not have to have a reason.

I do not really understand this logic either, but everyone is free to trade how they wish, whatever manner makes sense for them. I will, however, never limit myself to specific types of returns for specific types of cards. If it's on my want list, I want it. If it's on my tradelist, I probably don't really want it. If we can make a trade that gets me something I want for something I don't want: win.
Value certainly plays a part here, but my wants are always the highest priority. Evaluating trade based solely on perceived dollars in vs. perceived dollars out is what speculators and investors do. I'm a collector. I have no illusions that this is a hobby, not a retirement fund.

I've traded away vintage for modern, inserts for base and so on. While I can handle most of those other scenarios, I have a big enough WL and FS/T list after all, my main goal is hoping both sides are happy with the final result.

I understand all of the types listed and see why they did it. The ones I do not understand are the ones that DO NOT reply to an offer or a message.

I agree 100% with budler. just a 'decline' kinda drives me nuts, lol. But to each their own, i guess.
