Why do you guys like to sort by last name, rather than, say, by year of induction?

I don't specifically PC basketball Hall of Famers but any I do have I store in folders. To change things up from most here, they are sorted by year the player was drafted (and pick they were drafted at within each year).
I can't speak for others but I haven't sorted by year of induction because, while each year's class is mainly players from a specific era, there are also older players inducted. I would find it unusual to have a player from the 50s sandwiched in amongst a bunch of guys from the 2000s.

I am guessing it's easier on the fly to organize than look up years, etc. One would also need to put year dividers in, whereas names can be eyeballed. I do by names for my binders, though the year idea is an interesting option to consider despite the work involved.

When I started my collection of HOFers, I knew who the HOFers were, but really didn't know when they were inducted, and honestly, I don't care when they were inducted.

My HOF collection is limited to players in Montreal Canadiens uniforms, and I tend to stick to signed cards and graded rookies (don't care about the actual grade too much, just want the slab and authentication)

As a Nebraska Cornhusker football collector there are just a few HOFers so they go into the year/brand/set with all the other players. Just because he is a HOFer does not make him any more important to me.

Since collect players rather than sets, my whole collection is sorted by last name in alphabetical order first, followed by card year, so it was easier for me to just keep that method for my HoF collection. Plus, like vrooomed said, I don't really care when they were inducted, so I'll probably forget the year and it'll be chaos.

Although I should remember, It is easier to find my name than the year inducted.

Right. I always know where to find Willie McCovey, Bob Gibson, or Tom Glavine. I never have to bother with "McCovey was what year? Was he after Gibson? Before? Alpha order keeps it somewhat simple. (The only complication for me is when a binder gets over-filled and there is the ripple effect down the line of binders. I have been known to "insert" a binder to make the shuffling go a little easier.)

I was going to start a HOF binder before i trade all my odd ball cards away. and i was going to do it by year inducted and do one card per player. it tells a different story IMO and doing one card per player makes the by inducted year reasonable. also helps when i want to update it.
Ideally have only player cards but start with whatever i have.
