As others have said, welcome. And you nailed it - there is a community here. With a lot of great people. Don't take advantage of their generosity, and you'll see it ten-fold. I have said for a long time that the card hobbyists are the best people around. Then to top it off, TCDb has attracted the best of that group. Essentially, the community here is the best of the best.
Welcome to this place and the hobby. It can be a very fun road. Take it slow, enjoy what you have. Enjoy each item you get. Don't rush to "catalog it and put it away." Enjoy!

Thanks, Vrooomed! Looking forward to being a part of things. I have opened some of the profiles of people commenting in here and it is crazy to see some of the amount of cards you all have gathered. I am definitely going to have to start scrolling through some other's collections and taking a look

In my case, it's simply because I've been around a long time. LOL
Been collecting since 1978, had "employment" for a card shop starting when I was 11. And started working for a card company right before my senior year of high school (which went on for 7 years). Had tables at shows for a while. My best friend owned and operated several differnt card shops (not at the same time, different times). My wife collected way before we met, and our early years of being married were spent going to various shows (now married 28 years). All of those factors have helped me obtain a nice collection. AndI know others have larger collections. And that's cool. I'm more than happy with what I have. Yes, I do try to get things I don't have, but if I lose an auction, no sweat. Keep that kind of attitude, and you'll be fine. Get into the "I gotta have that and that and that" mentality and you'll go bonkers or broke (or both) in no time.

Welcome! My only advice is to enjoy the cards you acquire. Appreciate the picture on the front, but also take the time to read the back and/or look over the stats. I have also been known to smell a card or two. Sometimes in the rush to get more and more, doesn't hurt to take a moment to appreciate what you have.

I mentioned this to somebody the other day. Junk wax Score has some of the best write-ups on the back of their cards that I've come across. Definitely don't see writing like that on cards today.

Welcome to the TCDB site/community! Like everyone has previously said, it's a great place to be. It's a great place to organize and inventory your cards. It's also a very great place to trade. Check out the FAQ to get an idea of how things work. Search the forums if you have questions. If you can't find an answer in a previous forum post, posting the question will certainly bring an answer. Enjoy!

Hey Mark! Yeah, I have come across some of those in the hobby shops and cards shows I have been in lately. My dad has collected comics for a while; he has a lot of cool signed ones and numbered copies in his collection. That's cool that they do trading cards as well for Marvel and DC and all those comic characters. I had not really noticed all the trading cards in entertainment and all these other categories until going to some local card shows recently. I was reading the other day about a really valuable Spiderman card, I bet there would be a bunch that would be cool to have. That is definitely going to be something we get into down the line I am sure!

HellsCollect,
What's your favorite kind of collecting? Do you like sets, teams, or players?
I'm trying to develope a new strategy of collecting, where I focus more on value and quality, rather than cheap and quantity.
What's your specific strategy?

rnocards, I think that is something I am still working on figuring out! I know there is probably better money spent in the hobby but I enjoy opening packs and looking for autos and relics and hits like that for sure. While I think it is cool to collect and build some sets, it is also fun to try and get some really cool and valuable cards. I also like to find Red Sox cards as that is my favorite team. My Dad and I have a couple of team sets and partial sets from the little collecting we did, and I have always enjoyed finding players on the team too since I tend to know and root for them a bit more than others. I am sure I will find some new interests as I continue with all of it!
With trying to focus on value and quantity, do you find yourself gravitating towards any specific types of cards or ways of going about collecting?
