I am not a super regular on the forums but I visit at least once a week. This was a thread I had not seen before and I’m really glad that I came across it!
I could relate to so many stories here in the thread, especially about being in your early to mid 50s and classifying and sorting all the cards. As a math/computer person, I started cataloging my cards in the summer of 22 at which point I had about 40,000 and finished in January 2023, at which point my collection had grown to about 90,000 because of some bulk buys and other random pick ups along the way.
personally, I really enjoy the cataloging and the sorting and the entering the information on this website. This website has been a godsend, because it finally allows me to see what I have, whereas I never really knew what I had over the years besides a bunch of junk wax cards to be honest.
i’ve made a few online “friends” on this site and honestly, it’s just good to connect with the kind of people that I likely would’ve associated with when I was a youngster I like the aspect of collecting that deals with honesty and integrity, and I’ve really seen that in a lot of people on this site, especially a desire to help people who are new to the site and may have questions.
Shoutout to BSwagger for the mention in the forum post! I’ve really enjoyed moving my cards and helping people fill up their sets and have a sense of completeness. Although I don’t know too many collectors who live near me in northern New Jersey, I would 100% be happy to help people sort and catalog their collections if they live close enough. Honestly, I love it that much and it’s very easy for me to do. So in case anyone is in that situation they’re looking for someone to help out sorting their cards and getting them online, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help you .
OK, that’s enough for now and I’m glad it’s gotten so many replies. Hope to talk to some of you soon. I used speech to text to write this message, so hopefully it makes sense.
