Am I in the minority, where I DONT look up the values of each card in a trade, to ensure that the deal is as close to fair as possible? A lot more traders i encounter, actually look up the values (not TCDB’s) of each card in the trade, as minimal of a dollar amount that it might be, and line each side of the deal up, IMO, it’s a bit too much, I tend to just eyeball it most of the time, and if it looks fair then let’s go for it, I have prob lost more in value over the years from my side doing it that way, but that seems to be the way we would do it as kids, other than maybe looking at a Beckett, just seems exorbitant to me - who has the time to do this?🤦🏻♂️ thoughts??? Maybe it’s just me 🤷🏻♂️

I'm the same. If I'm getting something I want and they are getting something they want, that's usually good enough for me. I've made lopsided trades both ways this year. Trying to even up the "value" just sounds like a lot of hassle. I'd cancel the trade before dealing with that.

i don't care too much as long as it is something we each need something i need is more value to me than what a "market value" would be

I have had the same experience as the OP and will concur that it seems more frequent. No I won't trade a bunch of HoF cards for the same amount of commons but if very similar in player names and in eras, then I am game to do the trade. Simply a quick look at both sides of the ledger usually decides it for me whether to Accept, Counter, or outright Decline.

I generally, eyeball the values on TCDb to see if the values are in the general ballpark. I haven't taken the time to go looking at values on other sites. I'm more concerned about finding cards that I'm interested in.

Every time I get a trade proposal with $ attached to every card, I decline. They've always been lopsided (manipulated) in their favor. Usually, they want a HOFer RC in trade for a bunch of overvauled commons.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

As far as trading goes. Most of my trades are 1 or 3 cards coming my way. I ask the trader to make the offer, so they are in control of the trade.
I'm at the point of collecting that I want to get cards to members for their PC (not for reselling or trading) so the value is not that important. I did want it fair for both of us but have traded a baseball HOFer card for a guy like Tanner Lee. (Nebraska football). I have found 99.5% of the members here are very fair just a few that pushes the limit.
As far as sales I have a way to figure out the base for the sale then go from there. I ask them to give me a price first.

I don’t really care about prices. If I want a card, I usually give the trader what they want. I would like to believe that if I am trying to get a numbered card or an auto of a nobody, I will offer a boatload of cards on the person’s want list.

I think a lot of us that have been collecting for years are really just keen on the prices for most things. If it's not an oddball insert or an ultra-modern parallel most of the time there's not much need to look up prices

For the most part, I'm not too concerned about value as long as my trade partner gets the cards they want and me the same. Value comes into play when the wanted card is one of the only few offered on the site or a popular or higher valued card such as the Topps SP Jeter card w/ Mantle & Bush (first one that comes to mind). If a trade proposal goes over 2 counter rounds, I generally withdraw and hope a deal can be made later down the road. No offense.
One thing I do try to do when countering is keeping all my trade partners cards in the deal and try to match that. It irritates me when someone counters and the cards I want are removed and/or replaced. It's kills the deal for me vs. starting a whole new trade.
