with regard to todays "Random Card of the day," the 2020 Topps 488 Reynaldo Lopez Gold Star parallel
made me stop and look. what the hell is that? not gold SN to the year, and not Independence Day SN76
and the comments, yet another unnecessary parallel and so on
so, my curiosity and interest in parallels, forced me to research, I couldn't just shake my head and move on
it seems that in 2020 Topps decided to make a game of the exclusive packs in factory sets
for many years, factory sets have had some variety of exclusive promotion, either a 5 card set of RC rookie photo variation cards, or a 5 card exclusive set of border variation cards. in 2011 they were red and were SN 245, in 2012 they were orange and were SN 190, in 2013 they were orange and were SN 230, and so on.
in 2020 the 5 card exclusive pack was striped foil and SN 264, but ........ 1 per 3 of the factory set had a different 5 card exclusive pack, and this is what Baseballcardpedia says.
- Gold Star (11,921 sets; 1:3.1 sets)
- Blue (limited to 299 sets; 1:42 sets)
- Orange (limited to 99 sets; 1:125 sets)
- FoilFractor (one-of-one; 1:36,960 sets)
but, something seems off with this baseballcardpedia note. if the base striped foil pack is SN 264, then gold star, while not numbered, but 1 per 3.1, should be PR 130, and the blue while not numbered but 1 per 42, should be PR 6, and the Orange should be PR 2
