I have been thinking about creating a separate collection for each player I collect, but am not sure if that is a good idea or worth the effort. My main concern is that I collect around 250 individual players (all baseball) so that would be a lot of collections, some of which would only contain a few dozen cards.
The main reason I want to do this is because the new feature that allows you to see all your cards in a collection also makes it possible to see just your haves and wants for a single player, but only if you have a separate collection for that player. I keep my cards in binders and leave spaces for cards I want - so being able to see only my haves and wants makes it much, much easier to keep my collection organized.
Does anyone else have a lot of separate collections, like 100s of different collections? And is there a limit on the number of collections you can have?

Is there such a thing as too many? I know Vroomed has 329 collections. I think use as many as you need to stay organized. After logging cards, I am going to start collections marked with my boxes. So I know which box cards are in.

I don't know of a limit yet.
That is correct, currently at 329 collections due to my crazy brain. And I'm sure it will grow, and that's fine. If I ever hit the limit, I'll be sure to post in the forums. But, if the limit wasn't 255, I doubt we'll see it anytime soon.

I sometimes have trouble finding which collection a card is in. Is there an easy way to determine that?

I looked into doing it. I have 850 plus players. The more I thought about it the more I figured it was not for me. I do understand why some members do it.
I did also thought about adding all the players to my favorite Persons list or adding collections by years. My collection is in binders by years and a few other binders.
But in the end I just wanted it to be simple.

I don't believe so. But that may be a nice feature to suggestion.

So doesn’t that defeat the purpose of the system you are thinking of. If you know you have card X, but don’t know which box it is in, you will have to hunt through all your collections.

It would if you're doing "by box". Since mine is more by "player type", it's pretty logical (to me) where a card is. You request a Mike Schmidt card from me, I know where they are (HOF extras). A Mickey Morandini while with the Phillies, I know where it is (Phillies extras), a Rod Carew, same as the Schmidt, a Mario Mendoza, Commons boxes, Mike Trout, Active Favs Extras. Pujols, Retired Favs extras. When he gets voted in, I'll move the collection and the extras. On TCDB, I'll rename my collection, and re-order in to my order, but the extras are all lumped together in a FS/FT collection anyway, so no movement is needed there.
Thisis also why I didn't do it "by box" as there is no current implementation that assists in that.

Thanks Dan, that makes sense. I just wanted to be sure there wasn’t some functionality in the system I was overlooking/missing out on.

All I know is that I have about 130ish Collections. As a set collector I have a Collection each for every sport I collect reserved only for only sets. I have one for each player I collect and then one that strictly has only my FS/T cards. 99.9% of the time I know what Collection a card is going to straightaway. Only time I may get turned around is when a combo card has more than 1 player on it I may collect (say a Devers and Bogaerts one). Made easier when, for the most part, I dont collect an insert for a PC when I know I have/want one fron a set I'm collecting.
