Great finish for the WBC. Shohei striking out Trout for the final out in the ninth with a one run lead! The scripted match up everyone wanted. Amazing!

Couldn't have been scripted better. Didn't watch, but here we have the 2 countries with the largest/most well-known leagues facing each other with their largest superstars, who are teammates in the MLB, facing off with two outs and one run lead with championship on the line.
I can hear someone crying conspiracy....

Great tournament that ended with a close game. Congrats on Japan.
Had to spend the 20 minutes after the game comforting my 8 year old who couldn't stop crying about the USA losing.

Let's not forget they ended on a full count as well. Couldn't have been scripted better and what a World Baseball Classic as a whole!

And the Keith Olbermann's of the world say this tournament is pointless and people in the USA don't care about it.

People do have to be careful projecting their generation's (or just their) views onto other generations just because they didn't grow up with something.
At some stage, long, long ago, I am sure MLB (and it's predecessors) were also seen as "pointless and people in the USA didn't care about it".
But then again, this is what these talking head shock jocks are paid to do.

Everyone's entitled to their opinions about the game. People shouldn't have to be careful about expressing one.

While I barely watched any of the games, I followed it pretty closely. USA wasn't even expected to make it to the Championship Game until Trea Turner blasted a Grand Slam against Venezuela in the quarterfinal. Then they stomped Cuba in the next game. I thought Puerto Rico had a really good team but Mexico managed to beat them in the quarterfinals. Even though it was 2 years late (due to the pandemic), the 5th WBC was really interesting. The rest of the world needs to catch up to Japan now. They've won 3 of the 5 WBC's with only the US and DR winning the other two.
Now I have a question about the WBC. Since this one was 2 years later than originally planned, do they have another one in 2025 or stick to the 4-year plan and not have another until 2027? Personally, I'd rather see another one in 2025 and then in 2029 instead of going to 2027 and 2031.

Amazing ending! Ohtani's performance solidifies his spot at the top of the game right now and of all time. It's fun watching someone create history live.
