I would like to know the answer to your second question. For the first, I give it 48 hours, unless they specifically say "will look this weekend when I have a chance" or something. When someone logs into the site, but doesn't check their proposals, then I get frustrated. It takes 30 seconds to say "looks good, let me confirm tonight" or whatever. This is a TRADING site. It is the main purpose! Not everyone always understands that, I think.

Over the years we have had a number of members that have gotten in over their heads. By accepting way too many trades and getting behind on shipping and having the same card in several trades. Some will walk away and other will try to make it up.
IMO They just do not what to tell people that they messed up by accepting way too many offers as they did not want to decline any and offers keep coming in. Do not know if they know how to turn off their trading mode.
I had one guy that it looked like we had a nice deal for both of us. (Through messages). He just stopped communicating. About 5 weeks later he messaged me saying he was sorry but thing got out of hand and he was still willing to do our deal. That is what happen to him.
Some members have to understand turning off your trading is not a bad thing. Most of us do understand.
Then there are many other reasons (as listed) for not updating offers.

Actually, it's a trading card DATABASE site, and not everyone here is interested in trading, buying, or selling.
Some people are here simply to see checklists of cards so they know what theuy want to get.
Some people are here because they wwere gifted cards and have no clue what they are.
Some people are here to simply catalog their collection.
Some people are here to trade.
And there are a bunch of other reasons people can be here. Please understand that the reason you're here is NOT the reason everyone else is here.

-- Dan -- Note: Please see my profile for more info regarding trading (section updated 10/25/2023). I have added a large portion of my inventory to the site, and currently have trading turned off (details are in my profile). I have (finally) unearthed my 2 very large boxes of Star Company minor league sets and they are available (email for details).

This is completely accurate -- not everybody is here expressly to trade.
Though I would add a caveat: if a member lists cards for sale or trade, said member should reasonably expect that another member might express interest in buying or trading for those cards. In such situations, it would be courteous to respond.

I usually give a week if I know the potential trader is regularly active here before pulling a request. If I create a proposal for cards that I 'really' would like to have, I'll send over a quick message asking if they received it and in fact are interested. Sometimes we all just need a little push or reminder.
A couple points that were mentioned: this is a database, but it is a great feature to be able to trade. But if you don't want to trade or have no interest in requests, don't create a trade list (or state in your profile that you only want to sell).

I am in complete agreement that not everyone is here to trade or should be expected to trade. HOWEVER, if that is the case, then why not turn off trading? Or don't list cards as for sale or trade. You can fill up the database with as many cards as you want in your collection, but why list cards as tradable if you don't want to trade? I as a database user should not be expected to know that someone is just listing cards for trade for some reason other than actually wanting to trade. I'm not bent out of shape about it or anything, but it does get a bit tedious to not get responses from people listing cards for trade.

I think Dan missed one reason some of the members are here and IMO is very important.
To make this site the biggest, the best and the most accurate database around for all types of trading cards. Period!! Some members show no cards but has upload a lot of images of cards and done checklist and corrected many errors. They have given a lot of information to members.
Thanks to Admin we all can do our own thing here.
Yes In such situations, it would be courteous to respond. Yes it is frustrating at time but all sites are that way. That is just the way some people are. The longer you are here the more you will understand who does thing that you do not like and who you really want to trade with as they are on the same page that you are on.

2 weeks and they haven't flagged it as shipped? That's a bit excessive. I feel bad if I can't get the cards I trade shipped within 2 days of hitting accept. Once was a holiday weekend and it was 3 days and I was nearly in panic mode because I hadn't shipped the other person's cards yet.
I've only left negative feedback once and I gave the other trader well over a month. After a month's time I messaged them saying I hadn't received the cards yet (in their case they flagged the trade as shipped). I waited 3 or 4 days, messaged them both through their profile and on the trade a 2nd time. After another 3 or 4 days without a response I posted to the trade that I would give them 1 more day to respond before leaving negative feedback. After nothing, I left a negative and by the time I did, several other trades had already posted negatives saying the exact same thing.

I have, and I was completely understanding of his circumstances back in December and early January. We had a couple pending trades during that time, and I allowed him nearly 6 weeks to get some trades back to me. I have another with him currently that was proposed and accepted well after his situation at home was resolved (per his profile). I get that he may have needed some time to get caught up on trades for the 4-5 weeks he was not able to, but the lack of communication is what it really getting me. And, if he was behind in trades, he probably shouldn't have accepted my latest offer to begin with.
