Yes, this is the problem. Sometimes the Best Buy add shows up in a manner where you can't even click the X to make it go away. That's worse than what was posted.
TCDB is totally unusable on a phone unless you pay the premium fee.
And please don't respond that I (or anyone else) should just pay the premium fee. Sure many of us can afford it. I happily pay for a sponsorship of a player on this site. Many cannot do that. The problem is the sudden change in expectations. People have grown accustomed to a highly usable site at no cost and all of a sudden it's not usable on a phone unless you pay $ each month. Maybe people would have never started using TCDB if they knew they would have to pay to use it. But they invested hours of time and now are faced with a site that's unusable on a phone or paying for something they thought was and would be free. Disruption and change are hard on people.
I'm also empathetic towards people who have provided hours of their time providing information to make this site better, whether it's images, checklists, forum posts, or whatever, and can't really afford a premium fee or thought that what they give in time to the site is worth more than the fee. Everyone is in different circumstances.
The mobile website advertisement issue.needs to be fixed for the benefit of everyone who uses the site regardless of whether they pay or not.
I've never been comfortable paying for the premium membership or whatever it's called because there's just too much secrecy about the ownership and operation of the site. Is TCDB an actual legal business entity? Is it trying to make a profit? Does it have a business plan. I'm not asking these questions to be a jerk, but when I decide to subscribe to services, I usually have a better understanding about the business behind those services. I pay for Netflix and Apple Music. I know what those entities are. I subscribe to Microsoft Office 365. I know what Microsoft is. I used to subscribe to Beckett's digital service because I had a decent sense that Beckett was a real business. I knew who Dr Beckett was and even after he sold the business, I understood he sold it to legitimate businesses. I have no idea what TCDB is other than a bunch of fine people building a fabulous digital catalog of trading cards and an even more fabulous trading mechanism run by the mysterious Admin.
Sorry for the long rant. Just frustrated with the discourse about this topic.
