budler, I believe the median is computed using the 5 most recent prices, not all the prices.

I am doing my best to counteract the .20 values, the lowest I will list any card on Sportlots is now $1.50. It used to be .50, but I got very annoyed when I would get orders for one card. I don't list a ton of commons unless it is something that no one else has on the site and give free shipping for any order for eleven or more cards to encourage and discount on larger orders.
Let's be honest. There is no real value to modern, common cards. You are paying for someone's time and the .20 cent model works for a lot of sellers. I don't get it. It's a ton of work of organize and fulfill orders. I think some users have high shipping to encourage bulk purchases to allow them to compete on price for the commons, it's still alot of work.
In conclusion, buy from me on Sportlots to drive prices reflected in TCDB higher!

Business-wise, that makes zero sense. Why would anyone buy a card listed at $1.50 when there are dozens of the same card listed on the same site for .20?
The point is you want to make the pricing of cards listed on this database higher. That's not what this site is about, and frankly I don't understand the constant threads and arguing over pricing here. This is a database of trading cards, not a price guide. There are plenty of other sources that reflect current buying / selling trends in the market.
Has anyone put in a feature to eliminate the pricing here altogether? We'll never keep all the numbers up to date. You want a current reflection of prices, check completed eBay sales and look at what the median selling numbers are at COMC. Go to card shows and ask around; "what sells and why?"
The subject is continually brought up with no clear end solution in sight.

It was a joke, my tiny sales are not going to impact 99.99% of the pricing here.
No collector is going to pay $1.50 rather than $.20 for the same card, that is why I don't bother listing most commons, but I do have some. This is a good example of commons I offer:
1990 Panini Basketball Stickers #155 Billy Thompson BK
A collector bought two of them from me for a total of $3.00 plus $3 for shipping. We are both happy, I guess that is one of the commons that will have their price affected by me though.
I use Sportslot quantities to help determine the rarity of a card. If there are 10+ NM copies competing on price, it is pretty common. The number of NM copies on Sportlots might be a better indicator than price.

Over all my years of collecting/buying/selling I see 3 types of sellers with grey area between them. Their prices on the same cards will vary a lot.
1. Sellers just dumping cards to get rid of them. Some willing to give them away.
2. Sellers trying to sell to get money to buy more cards for their PC.
3. Sellers trying to make a living off of cards.
As for me I'm in-between 1 and 2. I have cards I'm willing to just dump and other I'm trying to make more off of so I can buy my overprices cards for my PC.
On another forum there was a posting. Race to the Bottom!! members complaining about sellers undercutting other sellers. It got ugly.

The race to the bottom, evens out eventually in the card marketplace. When someone prices something too low, another dealer will swoop in and buy it for resale. Between eBay, COMC, Sportlots, Beckett and individual sites, there is a pretty robust marketplace for buying and selling cards. It might take time, but eventually the right price is reached. Getting it reflected accurately on TCDB is a whole different challenge.

Back in the day when i had online stores (not selling sports cards) I decided to not be the cheapest guy. I ended up being below the really expensive people and for some reason shoppers would buy items way higher??
It always confused me but I always had my theories.

I couldn't care less what price shows up for cards here on TCDB. I also don't care what they are selling for on other sites. I know what I own and have an idea of the value for each card. PRICE doesn't matter to an honest collector or seller. I NEVER set a price for my cards. When someone offers to buy a card or cards from me, I ask them to make an offer. I usually take that offer and many times have even countered with a lower price than they offered. I'm not trying to rip people off for a simple card, no matter how long they have been hunting for it.
I can beat nearly every online price (except baseballcardca). My only catch is that I only ship as USPS 1st Class Parcel. That still doesn't stop people from buying a single card from me when they could get dozens or hundreds more for nearly the same shipping cost! The hobby is completely fluid and collectors will do all kinds of different things to get the cards they want. The "investors" are a different story, but those aren't the people contacting me about my cards so I don't care what they do. I prefer to trade cards, but that doesn't always work with people who have very specific collecting goals. So I decided to sell cards when a match couldn't be made for a trade. Nobody I've dealt with cared at all what the "PRICE" of the card was on here or on any other sites.
I don't care what Sportlots and COMC and eBay and Beckett and .... have to say about card values. It doesn't affect me at all and I don't have to give any of them a percentage of my money when I sell on this site. Just gotta point out that last part...

I’d rather pay $1.50 for a card with free shipping than to pay 0.18 for the same card with $3.50 in shipping but I’m just weird that way.

This is why I would love to see a feature to flag specific cards as "commons" and allow a single common price to be entered for a given set. I'm sure there are some players who might be semi popular would be subject to debate but in most cases, people agree which the commons in a given set are.
