There are probably a lot of people whose cards are disorganized and have been largely untouched for years. TCDB would be a great tool for a “newbie” like me even if it was nothing more than a way to inventory my cards, but three months of sorting and entering more than 46,000 cards showed me it has a lot more to offer.
My collection covers my childhood horde through the 1960’s and into the early 1970’s. It picks up again as complete sets could be easily purchased in the early 1980s and then again in the early 1990s when I had more time for hobby activities. Along the way I’ve picked up childhood collections from other people, those who knew I collected gave more cards, and an old friend left me some childhood cards before he passed away.
My favorite early sets are 1963 Fleer baseball, 1960s Philadelphia football and the 1969-1970 Topps NBA set. The first set I ever built from scratch was the 1970 Topps football and I’m now a little more than a dozen cards short of building a 1991 Upper Deck baseball set.
My favorite teams are the Milwaukee Braves and Milwaukee Brewers. I’ve built a relatively large collection of Robin Yount and Paul Molitor cards and hope to obtain more Hank Aaron and Nolan Ryan cards. I’ve had a few hundred cards PSA graded but 85% of the value of my collection remains in cards valued at less than $20 – so there is a lot I can make available in trade.
I’ll set goals for the New Year in the next few days and look forward to making my first trades in a few weeks!
