I can't recall the name of these products, but I do remember seeing a Sports Collectors Daily story about them fairly recently.  They were these sealed plastic bags filled with unopened wax packs of products which I assume didn't sell very well on their own.  I believe the bags cost $2 each and had about 20 wax packs each.  I bought a couple of these bags at the Newsberry's five and dime and remember getting packs from 81 Topps Football, 82 Topps Football, Superman, ET, Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark and some others.  I distinctly recall pulling several Joe Montana RCs, LT RCs, and other nice cards, but at the time I was young to know any better.  Anyone remember what this product was called?

I recall in 1984 purchasing Donruss Super Value Bags at J.J. Newberry's.  Retail price I believe was $1.29 each and contained 25 Wax Packs.  I found them marked down to $1 per bag.  I bought about $25 worth of bags and later returned to purchase more.  My friend negotiated it down to seventy five cents a bag if we took them all, which we did and then we split up our purchase.

Most of the bags had 13 Wax Packs of 1982 Donruss Baseball.  I found a few that had 13 Wax Packs of 1983 Donruss Baseball in generic wrappers.  The other 12 wax packs varied from bag to bag and included:

1978 Donruss Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Generic Wrappers)

1981 Donruss Dallas [TV Show] (Generic Wrappers)

1981 and 1982 Donruss Golf (Generic Wrappers)

1982 Donruss The Dark Crystal in purple wrappers and there were 6 wax packs in EVERY bag

a handfull of 1983 Donruss Knight Rider (Generic Wrappers)

1984 Donruss BMX Card Series (Generic Wrappers)

I would post a picture, but unfortunately, I opened ALL of the bags shortly after I purchased them.

I still have many unopened wax packs of most of these products (No Golf or Knight Rider).  I did open enough of the wax packs to make a set of all but the Knight Rider set as there were so few of them.  There are some left over individual cards on my trade list.
