Why is it when you get rid of cards that have been sitting collecting dust for months, you start getting trade offers on those same cards? I tossed 5 bags out yesterday. Defensive players mostly. That is hilarious.

Which is why I never toss anything. You never know. I have someone who wants to trade, when I'm ready to open, for a bunch of 90/91 UD hockey. You just never know when the request is going to come. New members everyday ready to trade...

I think there is more to what jimetal is saying too. I like the appeal of hockey cards. I have never watched hockey and don't really care too. But they look like so I may after I am done with my project get into hockey cards. This goes the same for everyone and with any sport. So collect because they watch the sport. Others collect because they like the cards. Happy Collecting.

Gotta be patient. The only cards that get tossed are overproduced modern common cards in poor condition.

That's happened to me several times.

I saw the best cards of my generation destroyed by creases, soft cornered hysterical edge wear, dragging themselves through the hobby shops at dawn looking for a top loader...

Even then, I throw them in a box to use for art projects

Turning off trading because my collection is in complete disarray after moving and I don't know when I can get it organized.

Sitting for months? Talk to me when it becomes decades.

Totally agree with Tom on this one! I still have cards FS/T that I pulled from packs when they were a new product in the 1980's and 90's.

When I am looking to clear space in my "to trade" box, I'll pick a brand and year I have a lot of and look for people with those cards on their want list and start proposing trades for them. I usually find a few takers and end up with cards I want in return. Win/win.

Great ideas posted here for sure! I have NEVER, ever thrown out cards. Even the worst of them make good bookmarks, as I am normally reading several books at a time. Plus, when the trading box gets to full, it is time to take a few boxes to Good Will, Salvation Army or the Thrift Shop run by local Churches. Simply because ALL TRADING CARDS MATTER!!
