All thoughts and opinions are very welcome.
Have been looking at creating something that encompasses the best of what already exists to tweak it to something that doesnt.
A COMC of sorts with trading capabilities, or is that already here at TCDB?
Can sales be done here without a shopping cart or could there potentially be a bunch of requests simultaneously for the same items?
For a reasonable fee in the neighborhood of 5% would admin ponder adding a shopping cart to the already best card website in the world?

There's more than that. Likely taxes would need to be accounted for as well. Many states require sales tax to be collected for every Internet purchase. Example, COMC includes it each time I purchase credit there. That's huge structure to undertake both in implementing in the system and managing to the tax authorities. Oh, and currency conversion and any other international requirements. Could be why Admin just wants a DATABASE.

Definitely, absolutely, there are many factors involved and without knowing him on a personal level he/she/they may very well be content as it is to be suplying the info without venturing into retail aspects.
Admin already sell ad space, and get a cut from ebay sales so maybe a slice of pie on this site may be a possibility?
For currency it could remain USD, conversions can be done at the paypal or CC levels.
Thanks for your thoughts!

I've bought and sold here and I didn't really intend to when I started. Sometimes other members just want cards and don't have anything I want or vice versa. It's pretty simple, though it requires a level of trust. Users with plenty of feedback though and the forum to hash out anything shady seem to keep things mostly in line.
As a bonus there are no taxes, fee's or anything here. It's kinda nice but does require back and forth and it can be a bit of work. I think this place has a nice niche. Trading, Buying & Selling all for free and to sort out amongst ourselves. Along with a great database and forum! COMC, Sportlots, eBay, LCS & cardshows kinda fill in the rest.

I've done that too, both bought and sold and you are right on what you say. Something more formal brings headaches

Ditto on all of that. Adding taxes to the equation really complicates things and I don't think anyone here wants more of that! Also, sales on this site don't need to be reported on taxes unless they hit a certain number. That number varies by state and country too. That would be quite complex for TCDB to deal with and track. Ebay is forced to deal with all that crap with the shear amount of volume they deal with daily. TCDB doesn't track all that stuff and it's better for all of us members that they don't track it. I don't sell sell a bunch of cards here, but when I do sell cards, I don't want to have to keep track of tax-related crap too.
Trading is completely free (according to the government) as you are sending your stuff to get stuff in return. They can't tax you for trading this item to get another item. Plus, you are paying a government entity to ship the item OR another shipping company is paying the taxes to move the package. In many states in the USA, there is now a thing called the Use Tax on our tax fillings each year. It asks us to report non-taxed purchases made online throughout the year. Do you think I've ever claimed anything there?! Absolutely not, since they can't prove it now. Most companies charge local taxes now but those that don't are hard to track down and the IRS and DOR will not take the time to do it.

To add to that, once this site considers adding a shopping cart, it then becomes somewhat responsible for any transactions that don't turn out well. The site wasn't intended to be a trading site, but as more came on it became allowable with the assumption that the site is not responsible because they have no involvement.
I actually like it that way. While I don't trade much, and rarely buy cards much these days in general, if I had a deal go south that money was actually exchanged (not counting shipping prices and such, just the buying), and it was from a shopping cart feature, I would seriously reconsider returning to the site. Not just this one but any site. I guess the same could be said about the affiliate links the site has or the ad space allowed, but the counter-argument would be that you are leaving the site to further those deals, so its outside the depth of the site. If you were screwed on another site that was linked to this one, then you could send a message to the Admin who could then reconsider their affiliation, but wouldn't be under any obligation to correct the matter beyond that. Just my thoughts.

Wasn't really buying from e-bay for a few years (not just cards)
When I returned and had a number of purchases
I noticed they even charge taxes on the shipping/postal you pay...

I would rather not see that happen. This is the one site I can visit daily where I still feel it's about the hobby. The business side of card collecting is available everywhere out there already. As others have said you can buy, sell, or trade here already so it's not like there is something unavailable, it's just not emphasized. I have done all of trading, buying and selling here. As a matter of fact 2022 has been a bit weird in that I have done next to no trades but I have sold a few times and my last few transactions have been purchases. Prior to this year almost everything had been trades.
I agree that it should be left the way it is. Don't take away from what makes this site different. If you can't find enough avenues to facilitate your buying and selling already you must be doing something wrong.
