So, does anyone else find themselves really liking unpopular sets? I think I have a thing for simple, mono colored, bold cards. I really love 91 Fleer Baseball, for example. For some reason it inspires less than happy feelings for other folks.
i thought it might be fun to hear about other "unpopular" sets people have a secret (or not so secret) crush on. Maybe we can find some new and fun stuff in the land of Misfit Sets.

92 Donruss. I think the borders are alright but the photos are great. Good action photos on front and face photo on back. Write ups on back are good too. I think what may have turned people off was the font used for the name on the front. It is brutally boring. If they used a more interesting color and font for the name maybe the set would have more of a reputation similar to 93 Upper Deck, which many seem to like.

90 Fleer, 91 Fleer, & 92 Fleer. They are perfect for getting autographs. Theyre at the top for me. 88 Donruss is definitely at the bottom.

I also loved '91 Fleer. When it came out I thought it was gorgeous (very early 90s style I guess) and maybe it hasn't held up well but I still have a soft spot for it. Plus Fleer finally gave us back photos, what wasn't to love? Some great inserts as well. '92 Fleer is a beautiful set as well. The card stock was top notch. I really still kind of like '88 Fleer's confetti vibe as well.
Not to make this all about Fleer, someone mentioned the similarities between '92 Donruss and '93 Upper Deck. I prefer the Donruss release far and away. '93 Upper Deck (despite great photos) is drab and uninspired and made me think UD didn't have any other good ideas in them after they wore out that baseline design element.

I dont hate 90 Donruss like many seem to. Late 80s Fleer doesnt seem to get a lot of love but I liked them all!

I love some of the weird gimmicky 90s football sets like 1996 Topps Gilt Edge (the edges of the card are gold foil) or 1996 Pacific Litho-Cel (there are 2 versions of each card, you can combine them to get a 3D image of the player). Even though they only got one release, they're still fun to look at in a binder!

1991 fleer baseball was my first pack / set that hooked me on the hobby.
I won't say they're horrible but it's those cards that bring back the feels when I get a cheap flea market or basement box and there's a stack of that very familliar set, it takes me back to the reason it all started for me.

trade priorities are 95 Fleer Ultra Spider-Man gold foil sig parallels and 95 Batman Forever Metal. happy to do 10:1 or more depending on rarity.

Well, I'll go waaaay vintage. I discovered the T207 Brownbacks set some time ago. They look ghostly, and everyone seems to hate them. I made it my quest to get the Cubs team set -- a quest I accomplished to my satisfaction, minus the two ridiculously priced shortprints. Now they're all on display on a black velvet C, with black silk roses interwoven, and a painted label dripping with blood. I thought I'd just go with the ghostly, horror theme.

+1 on the T207 brownbacks. I bet they look cool in that display too.

Generally, the condition I look for is: 1800s-1929 - G and up (1+)... 1930-1951 - VGEX and up (2.5+).. 1952-1967 - EX and up (5+)... 1968-1978 - EXMT and up (6.5+)... 1979-1994 - EXMT/NM and up (7.5+)... 1995-present - NM+ and up (8.5+)

I agree. I love the old vintage sets and the sepia tone.
