- Why: Wheeler claims redemption cards sold in trading card packs by Topps and Panini constitute an unlawful lottery.

At a glance it sounds like they are trying to take advantage of technicalities in the law. I don't think it's going to work out for them. Redemption cards have been around for, as far I know, at least 20 years. I don't think this person will be able to convince a judge that they're suddenly a problem. Reminds me of that judge who was disbarred because he sued a laundromat for $70,000,000 when they lost his pants.

Random people who don't buy cards or care about cards wouldn't purchase the packs. I don't think my fish monger will be interested in a Topps redemption card sorry to inform you Mrs. Wheeler. Topps will lose even more money because they're giving away a trip to the all star game to some Joe dude who likes sophisticated games like chess. Purchase the packs to get the opportunity. Its how its always been and its how it should and most likely stay as. Collectors are 60% of the time, (flippers make up the other 40%. Another day, another rant.) so make it worth their while. They are gonna purchase it anyway. Might as well just stuff it in the packs. It'll draw people away because they will just fill out the form and win their 1/1 auto bat card instead of spending the time of money and enjoying the hunt. My rant is over *gasps*. My favorite lawsuit was when that lady got the millions of dollars because she found a spoon in here pack of forks she bought. Tsk tsk tsk.

Perhaps I'm just ignorant to what is contained in some Topps and Panini releases, but what redemption gives you a "random specialty card?" I was under the impression that if you pulled a redemption card, you received the card stated on the redemption. It's just a promissory note. Are there products that give "random" specialty cards through redemptions?

At first glance this has no legs in my mind. You could say each pack is a lottery then. You don't know which cards you are getting in a pack.

The real crime is Panini's customer service. In the immortal words of noted legal scholar Rasheed Wallace, "That's felonious."

Cards come from a smoke/pet/Subway-bread/patchouli free home.

I like this. I have been waiting on a redemption for 3 or 4 years now from Panini. That is what needs investigation.

I have one that has been out for years too...Panini. I'm assuming that it will not make its way to me, but the ticket is not closed either, so who knows.
