A few years ago I left a complete set of 1987 Topps Baseball cards in an 800-count box on my brother's kitchen counter. One of his dogs found it, reached up and knocked it to the floor (he's a big dog), and somehow managed to open the box and scatter a bunch of the cards around. They didn't appear to be badly damaged or slobbered on, so I marked it down as nothing more than an impressive feat by the dog. Maybe he just can't stand 1987 Topps.

I have this Star Wars card in my collection...
It's clearly been chewed on. I don't know if it was my dog or me. Could have been either. It's one of the cards I consider the foundation of my collection, that my brother gave me back in 1988 which started me on the collecting journing I'm still on more than 30 years later. Back in 2015 I had a flood and my Star Wars box got wet...this card is one that got wet. It's the only one that didn't take any damage from the flood.
I do have a non-chewed version as well but this one matters more to me.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. I buy collections locally from time to time and get a kick out of what I can find. Some things are standard like crossing out an old team name and hand writing the new team name. Scribbling on a beard. I recently had a few cards where the the kid who had owned it had glued a picture of their head on a handful of cards. It's nice to see when kids look at cards for something other than an investment.

I had a cat pee on a box of autos and relics that I had set aside to scan. About half of them went straight in the trash, the other half didn't have physical (visible) damage, so I put them in a different box in hopes tha the smell would eventually wear off. So far I haven't gotten up the nerve to test out that theory.

I had an old Gil Hodges card. When he passed away I wrote "DEAD" across the front of the card. (at least it was accurate commentary)

I had a 1994 Brad Mackay Gold Autograph Rugby League card. My friends and I had a few other gold cards with no autos but no other autographed ones so it was pretty special. Because of this it always stayed at the top of my card stack and hence took the worst of the rubber band damage. However, what really finished it off was when I forgot to take my cards out of my pocket before a rep rugby practice.

I don't like to talk about it.:) love my Dad. When I was about 9 in 1977 and really got into cards he in his concept of fairness split up his collection of about 1200 very nice cards from his youth with my sister and I. Topps 57 58 59 60 61 and let my sister put her initials on the backs of hers. I had no concept of how bad of a move that was. I still have my cards I don't know where hers ended up. He could have bought her a doll or an ezz bake oven and she would have been way happier.

My favorite forum comment in quite a while.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
