It's hard to trust a flawed process, let alone someone else to take you to that flawed process land.
Who are those people scoring your cards?
Do they see better or use some sort of technology to assess all aspects
like edges, surface, corners, potential counterfeiting etc..?
If you don't like the grade you can always crack and resubmit(pay again) right?
Do you need a 3rd party to tell you 8, 9, 8.5, 10?
Or are you a huge fan because it increases the value exponentially?

I was fortunate to have bought tons of 2011 Topps Update Baseball. I sent several Trouts, Altuves, and Martinezes in. My Trouts had been in top loads since out of the pack and to take $20 to have it graded and receive 7 out of the 9 returned as GEM MINT 10 was definite to sell to make some good money. The Altuves 10s sold for around $100 each. I still have some of each in my Collection to complete the Sets I have.
That said, I have also sent in some 70s Cards in at the Quarterly specials of $8.50 or so a Card. Those were to have in my Collection. I bought a Collection from someone and sent in some Kobe RCs, Shaqs, and Tim Duncan's. I received all 9s and some 10s. As that obviously increased their value, they were for my Collection. I only paid $220 for what took 2 trips in the back seat of a full size pickup truck.
For my Personal Collection of older Cards and special Rookies, I like presenting and preserving them in slabs. All of mine are PSA and I don't see me going with anyone else as I like consistency with things. If they never come back to $20 and Quarterly Specials, I may never grade again. To end for me now, it is mainly about having my PC graded just for the sake of nicer presentation and protection. It also confirms how good of shape the Card is in

In its filing, Marx indicated the bookkeeper paid herself about $50,000 more than the $48,000 per year salary she was supposed to receive. Both of the company’s bookkeepers left their jobs in November of last year.
Not that theft is ok, but I don't know what a company in Ventura county expected trying to only pay an accountant a $48,000 salary. A general rule of thumb is to pay your book keepers enough that embezzling isn't worth it. I think we have all known that the bubble was about to burst, and the whole article shows that the hobby has become rather ridiculous.

Exactly!
Back when it cost 8.50 great, now that they're trying to deflect work 100$(is that for real?)
The ancient addage rings true again you get what you pay for hence the bookie and accountant helped themselves to "a proper salary"
Sports in general now on all aspects has too much money surrounding it and where there$ there will be those who take it to extremes.
After all survival has become initself very expensive to a point where you can't practically fault greed.

I'd be interested to know if people *primarily* grade cards to sell or to collect. If it's to sell, that must mean that they're either selling to collectors who have lots of money to throw around or they're selling to re-sellers/investors who think they got a deal and may try to get more money from collectors later. Until those collectors stop buying perceived perfect or nearly perfect cards for exorbitant prices, this market (and these middlemen) will continue to thrive.
Honestly, if a collector wants a graded card to make one feel good about one's collection, just buy a hard case, slap it on one's most perfect looking card, put whatever score sticker they want on it by whatever made up grading company, and be done with it. One can save some serious money by not bothering with the arbitrary grading market's shenanigans.

Well said,
Look at some Select Burrows examples and scratch our collective heads around the prices the bidding is at on them , it's like todays 20k and 40k are yesterdays 20 and 50 no small wonder when there are too many deep-pocketed playing this game it's causing things to get out of hand.
1 card is worth more than my 4 million, sounds crazy but is likely true, i probably couldn't "cash out" everything for 20k and this 1 card will beat it easily.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with questions. Some people act as if PSA is the perfect entity somehow (barry halper collection???)....isn't a gem mint card gem mint if its not graded??? Saw something about a PSA 10 Kobe i think, had hulked or discolored) and there was a big discussion if it was stil a PSA 10. I inquired about a remote-job grading cards for Beckett and asked about the process and equipment....the reply was its not a remote job, no training, no equipment....you simply show up in Dallas and start grading. When trying to investigate a card I asked a grading company what they used to determine that it was part of the set they claimed....their reply was essentially because we said so and the reference was no longer available. I then asked if that meant they could not grade any additional cards and the reply was....of course we can, well figure it out when you submit one???? and there seems to be loads of vids about how you can manipulate the graders to get better grades, one comes to mind where the recipient was pissed that they werent all 10s and a "how-to" on resubmitting cards to guarantee PSA 10...in the end its all very confusing to me anyways!

And the little query i have always had despite never ever really seeing a need to grade anything was what about cards that are not serial numbered such as base rookies and scarce non-serially numbered inserts?
How do you know that your submission isn't swapped with another similar submission?
Can the process be trusted enough that if i send in a Jordan RC they won't switch it out for a counterfeit copy? Or even a lesser conditioned one?

So many questions!!! its mind boggling, just saw a listing for a "holy grail" card for me 1935 Ntl Chicle Knute Rockne....a psa 1 sells for 165 a psa 9 is 16500. It was creased, torn and very ratty but was an option until I saw the seller was saying that it was a possible PSA 1......reprint.(any mention of reprint was removed) Leads me to thinking that a grading company would grade reprints (as reprints not necessarily as authentic, but authentic reprint????) or if you submitted enough times, someone would let it through as authentic. I have seen vids of people swearing that the cards they sent arent the cards they got back, may be a case where they were convinced they sent in a higher grade than what they got back....is it the owner or is it the grading co?
