eBay is introducing a service to protect buyers of cards > $750. Will eventually be expanded to > $250. Sellers ship card to eBay. eBay authenticates card and compares to sellers listing. If all good, they put in a sealed, tamperproof package, and send to you. Apparently they will not be charging extra for this service.
No fakes. No fraud. No doubt | eBay.com

Not a bad move by eBay, considering how hot the hobby has been. Here's some specific info in the FAQs about who will be grading the cards:
Who is authenticating the cards?
Leading industry experts at the Certified Collectibles Group's affiliates, CGC Trading Cards and Certified Sports Guaranty (CSG), are authenticating the cards.

Two brand new (2020) and unknown grading companies.
Reminds of an ebay seller I came across that was selling graded cards. The grading company and seller were one in the same.

Need to be clear here that CSG is not "grading" the cards. They are only authenticating them as real. Big difference.
I read the Pre-War Cards blog post and thought his concerns were fairly narrow. He states overall its a good idea, it just may not be the best idea for him.

For those complaining about it, please read the eBay press release in its fullest. It is not available for combined orders and is only availble to those where the seller and the buyer are located in the 50 states.
