The 1989 Topps was my first set as well. I had opened other earlier packs here and there that mom bought me. The 1989 Topps set was the first set I had to buy myself after getting paid weekly for a paper route.

The first packs I bought were 1989 NFL Pro Set from a convenience store counter. A few years ago what got me back into collecting heavy was gathering together the dozens of Eli Manning cards a friend had given me over the years and then deciding to expand the collection. Finding this website to document my collection has been a blessing.

My friend gave me some of his 1986 Topps cards including the Pete Rose. I was pretty impressed with that card. Later I got some 1987 Topps packs and I was hooked.

1987 Topps Set. My brothers and I wanted the set. My parents bought that set for us for christmas that year. Collected for the next four years until I lost interest. Always picked up packs here and there though the years. Bought a bunch of boxes of racing cards and got hooked on them. Got married so my cards were in boxes and in totes. My brother bought cards at an auctions for me about 5 years ago. I picked up collecting racing cards again at that time. Always wanted to go through my cards, either writing them all down on paper or putting them in Xcel. Then I found TCDB, Slowly entering and organising my collection. Also trading the cards I do not want. It's been enjoyable for my. Thanks, Jeff

Between 1969-1971, I picked up a few packs of Baseball Cards, as I began playing baseball in 1968 (still playing this greatest of Games). They were interesting enough, but it was the 1972 & 1973 Topps Baseball & Football cards that got me really going into the realm of becoming a Collector. Then when the Sunoco Football Stamps showed up, I was HOOKED as a Collector! Growing up in South Florida and having Season Tickets to several those great Miami Dolphin Seasons, was helpful in forging the Collector in me. This has been a very fascinating Forum Discussion to peek in on!!

1973 Topps Roberto Clemente. My older cousin had the card on his dresser during a visit to Pittsburgh in spring of '73. Showed me his collection and ended up giving me a paper shopping bag full of baseball cards ranging from '69 to '73. Must of been at least 800 cards. I loved the '72 IA cards. The '71 cards with the black border and olive green backs. But once I found the local stores that sold cards, things were never the same...but that's for another topic. lol

I got into card collecting in 1992 because my friend (next door neighbour) was already into collecting and got me into it. At first I only liked baseball so I collected that sport, but then I developed an interest in hockey and collected both. Then I lost the love of it because it got too expensive, and it changed from being about collecting and trading to precise dollar value for the card. I found my old cards when I cleaned out my mother's loft during Covid19 and got back into collecting because I had little else to do. Haven't stopped since.
