I said I had no goals for the year but I thought of one today (1/9/22). Since around 1999 or so I've been putting all my duplicates into big Avon boxes. I have no idea how many cards they hold, and I'm not even sure how many boxes there are...I am guesstimating 80,000 cards.
I've decided I want to know exactly what's in them, especially as I've now gone through and pulled the cards I want to replace, which I did last year.
So what I'm going to do is enter each box into a separate collection on here. Each box will get its own number (which will be random, based on whatever order they get typed in) and I will sort each box by set. Eventually, the cards that are in high enough quality will make their way to my tradelist here, or perhaps some sent to COMC. I won't be ready to do that until after I finish scanning everything, but this is something I would really like to know...and I also want to know what I have in my duplicates boxes. Really hope the one box I gave away didn't have any LeBron rookie card duplicates, lol.
If there are multiple copies of cards in the box, I'll be able to add them to my tradelist sooner.
Also, since my collection is by card number, there are quite probably variations and errors/corrections I had no idea existed. I already found a couple in the boxes I learned about on this site... including one that happened to literally be the top card in the box when I opened it for the first time since circa 2004.
I don't know how long it will take...it might not get done this year if I get bored with it...but I plan to start it this week after I finish proofing my tradelist. I don't think that will take all that long though, as I started this afternoon and I'm already up to the 2001-02 NBA season. Right now my enthusiasm is high but actually doing the work may prove tedious and not as much fun as I think it will...only time will tell.
VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.
