For me every trade deadline brings me angst. Without exception the newer players I PC are tied to the teams I love. Every trade deadline and off-season drives me nuts. Going back to the Hawks a few years ago having to trade players away I PC'ed because of salary cap issues. Had a nice collection of Teuvo Teravainen started. Had to move those into the big box and out of the PC boxes. Recently traded Anthony Miller's 261 Bears cards will have to be relocated. Then the White Sox broke my heart trading Nickey 2-strikes Madrigal away to my most hated team. Now the Hawks are doing it to me again with Pius Suter and Adam Boqvist moving on. So who's the PC guy that hurt the most when he got moved from your team??? For me it's Anthony Miller for sure.

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff. I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards". How apropos!!! Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.

Living in Tennessee, where there isn't a major league baseball team, I don't have a single team or player that I support - I support several!
Having said that, I do support the Titans in football, the Grizzlies in basketball, and the Predators in hockey.

For the longest time I refused to collect Nolan Ryan as a Texas Ranger - he left Houston and ended his career up north. It didn't bother me that he came from the Angels to Houston as I collected those as I could. A couple of years ago I relented and decided to collect Ryan even as a Ranger.
George Springer leaving Houston probably will affect how I collect him (but I have other issues collecting many modern cards anyway so it won't be a biggie). I did add Gerrit Cole's Pirate cards to my trade list once he signed with NY.
As a Houston fan over the years I've seen favorites go often and a few of them I've continued collecting (Ryan was more of a problem for other reasons).
I don't believe I have any Hakeem Olajuwon in another NBA team's uniform (Raptors? Grizzlies?, I don't recall). That one was bothersome. As was Tony Dorsett (Broncos), Emmitt Smith (Cards), and Steve Pelluer (Chiefs, oh, wait a minute, that one didn't bother me).

Trading Nelson Cruz this season hurt as a fan due to the impact he had both on the field and in the clunhouse for the Twins but it had to be done. As a fan it always hurts to see players get traded or leave your team but at the end of the day professional sports is a business and sometimes hard decisions need to be made to part with guys for long term benefit. However it certainly doesn't make the pain of seeing them leave go away.

I have been lucky about that as collector of college team there is not that much of moving around. (Until a few years ago) The last couple of years have gotten worst.

My collection is relatively unaffected. I collect my team, and if that player is really good, I'll either continue to collect him on other teams or not. Same with a great player who comes to my team that I already collected. Those cards stay as "non-Phillies" that I collect. A couple examples, Steve Carlton (HOF collection, Phillies collection). If he's a Phil, it's in the Phillies bnders. Not a Phil, in the HOF binders. A more recent, non-HOFer (for now?) would be Chase Utley. Sure, I'll continue to collect him, but they are separate if not a Phillies card. I don't move any Phillies cards once they are in the collection. But I guess that's why I have a team collection there and not a PC collection based on hem being part of a team. PCs happen because I want to collect the player, regardless of team.

I collect individual players more for what they achieve in the sport they play. Yes, I have several Blue Jays in my PC that some would wonder "Why him?" Tom Henke and Duane Ward are two of those. But I still collect Jimmy Key cards even though he left the Blue Jays in 1992. I collect Alomar cards for all the years he played and even after what he did off the field. I also collect a lot of players that have never played for the Blue Jays, some that I don't particular like but respect how they played the game. So though I wish more of the great players played their whole career with the same team, I accept the reality of what money does and don't let it affect my individual player collecting.

There's no impact for me whatsoever. I collect the Patriots - so anybody in a Patriots jersey I add. If someone gets traded like Curtis Martin for example, I just dont collect his cards for his new team. I would never go back and sell/trade his cards from when he was a Patriot just because he no longer is one.
I gotta ask though - do you do the same thing as a result of free agency as well or trades only?
