Could the database be following the progress of your master set if you have a single card from it in your collection? It assumes your are trying to complete it because there is at least one card in it? If there were no cards from the master set checked into your set's collection, the database would just ignore that master set and recognize only the base set?
I'm just guessing here. I have no idea how it works.
