My experience - I started entering everything I had, keepers and traders, then building want lists. When I had probably 80% entered, I realized I was so disorganized both on the site and in my physical collection that I asked Admin to delete my whole baseball card collection, everything. (Other sports I have very few keepers so everythign else was for trade). Knowing how much work it had been for me to enter everything, Admin even asked me to confirm what I had asked, and after I did confirm he did it for me.
I then got organized and started entering oldest to newest (going newest to oldest works just as well - just don't enter sets haphazardly unless you can keep everything physically organized to know what you have already entered). I entered all my keepers first, then added everything else in the sets that I wanted to complete to my want list (easy to do with the drop down menus). Once I had my collection entered, I worked on the other larger pile of cards, my traders. As I entered my traders, again, by set oldest to newest, I started gettting the trade proposals. Why? I had wants and now I had something to trade for them that matched up with other members. If you only have one or the other, people may see that they have cards for you but you have nothing for them, or vice versa. Future alerts may be ignored because they did not have matches last time.
All this to say - learn the site (I wish jimmetal had given me that advice before I started!) and be organized in your physical collection before you start entering stuff as well as before you start trading (you will soon have people frustrated if you offer something only to then have to tell them you can't find it). Take it slow and you will really learn to like the site; rush into it and you may find it very stressful.

Echoing sandyrusty, I began entering what I had ,sport by sport, chronologically oldest to newest (by and large) until I had most everything entered, with a few stragglers and oddballs towards the end. Then I had to decide which sets to persue attempting to complete even knowing the earliest ('60's mostly) would be a struggle since I wasn't blessed with a lot of traders of that era to offer in return. After entering nearly everything I ventured into the TCDb-verse in trading starting my first two trades with sandyrusty and Billy Kingsley and like they say the rest is history . A little daunting at first but it just takes a little time and effort/persistance and you'll soon be reaping rewards through the many helpful member traders here. Good luck.

Well you need 2 things to trade. A Want list and a trade list. But you also don't want to be trading for cards you already have. That's annoying and I know from experience. If you just want to trade focus on the first 2, but if you're trading to complete sets or PC's I'd enter the things I'm keeping into my collection as well. You might want to focus on one sport at a time or decades?? But as everyone else has said get familiar with the site first. Read the FAG. Ask questions on here. There's a lot of greaat people always willing to help. This site will give you all the card collecting joy you can handle provided you give it that much effort.

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff. I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards". How apropos!!! Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.

I am new too! I created an account a long time ago but until a few weeks ago I started adding to the database. I made a rookie mistake and added things to my want list and my trade/sell list not ready for trades so today I turned them both this morning. But welcome it's a great community.

Once I have counted and made a personal list for a few sets. I would add my wants and extras here. Then repeat. I found doing 3 sets at a time was working for me. That way I did not get burned out counting cards and somewhere around 6 or 7 months, I was done. But I was trading before I was done. I also sent out trade proposals. being the new-be you need to do that and get feedback. Once you start getting positive feedback, others will start sending you trade proposals.
Oh, and on your first trade, you will have to send first then once received they will send. It's an unwritten rule when you have no feedback.
Always check the other feedback before making a trade and always leave feedback after the trade is completed. Also, cleck sent when sent, received then completed. If you don't do them all in order the cards will not move on your lists and you will have to correct every card in the trade.
Ever have a question ask it on the forums. There are many here that will help you. As you can see. :)
Welcome and have fun trading.

My opinion on what to upload first: Perhaps, if you have them and are looking to trade, items such as a 1985 Cameron/Coca-Cola Joe Orsulak, a 1988 Coca Cola Padres Mark Parent, a 1989 Dubuque Braves Jeff Wetherby and a 1990 Dubuque Braves Jimmy Kremers. It might just be that I'm looking for those and would trade way, way in your favor for them ....

I'd be eternally grateful to anyone who can help me find a 1998 Bryan Braves (non-perforated) Kerry Ligtenberg and a 2000 Nabisco Albertson's Astros Chris Truby. Last missing items in a 10,000-card "set."

Another great tip for new users is to add near complete sets by adding the complete set first. Then remove cards you don't have. Then move all don't haves to wants. It's a great time saver.

After reading all the helpful comments, I feel selfish, because my answer would have been "Load up the Phillies you have for trade" lol
