I don't buy or sell cards on COMC, I don't submit cards for grading to either BGS or PSA or any other.
But, I hear complaints when I talk to people who use those services, and read about the complaints when I browse the hobby talk boards here and other trade sites.
COMC, PSA & BGS all have the same problem in the past year. Business has increased, and capacity has decreased due to covid, which created temporary shutdowns, followed by lower staffing at non essential business around the country.
Each week, their backlog builds up.
This is a fundamental problem in a hobby which has a huge population of impatient people. This hobby has a standard now of mailing trades, or card sales within 1-3 days, and an expectation that a package will be recieved in a week or less, and there is zero tolerance. It is quite common for negative feedback to be left on anything delivered in 10 days or more. This has driven up the cost of S&H as deals became mandatory to be USPS with tracking. I clearly remember the early days of ebay mailing a bubble mailer with no tracking, and when they got lost at the PO for a few days now and then, getting some nasty messages.
E-bay / paypal then set the standard, anybody who was unhappy could demand a refund. It was really stressful to send something and when it did not arrive on time, to get a nasty note that I was going to get negative feedback, and also forced to give a refund, and the buyer would keep the card when it did arrive, and dishonestly claim it never arrived. In fact, I quit selling on ebay.
I wrote on another thread, that a friend only sells graded on ebay now, for the reason that there can be no claim that the buyer wants a refund, because of card condition.
I read Many vaiety of threads by impatient hobbyists, whose first reaction is always - I think I have been ripped off by -----. I always recommend, take a deep breath. Take a chill pill, hope for the best, don't expect the worst. Personally, I always assume that life happens to people, and people are good, and they will come around to fulfill their obligation.
Anyhow, for my 2 cents, if you are a collector that is impatient, and you know you are impatient, and you are honest about your impatience, and you are self aware of your impatience .... stay away from COMC, PSA and BGS, until a year after covid-19 pandemic comes to an end.
