I always respond to trade requests. If it is one that I will accept I let them know that I am checking to make sure I have all the cards before I do accept. Nothing on this site is worse than someone modifying a trade proposal several times because they cant find the cards.

I calculated that over 50% of trade proposals I sent out went unanswered for over 2 weeks. Of that 50% over 90% of them signed into the site EVERY day. It is maddening. People say well message them first but even then they don't respond. People have lives. I get it. The world sucks right now but turn off the trades. Think about he time someone on the other side went through to make you a proposal. How would you feel if they ignored you. I have, at any time, 10 to 20 trades in progress and another 5 to 10 in proposed status. It's especially frustrating when you're chasing a particular card and only one member has it for sale and this happens. Rant over!!

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff. I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards". How apropos!!! Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.

I've had amazingly good luck with people responding to trade proposal. The percentage hasn't been nearly what you've experienced. Where I've had trouble is when somebody sends me a trade proposal and I counter. About 50 percent of the time, I don't hear from them again. If they don't like the counter, I wish they'd just say, "No, this doesn't work for me," and we both move on or continue working to come up with something satisfactory.
I think I recall somebody on here asking once how long you should wait when somebody doesn't respond to a trade proposal. The best recommendation I remember was seven days. So, I'll wait seven days, then withdraw.

I love to trade! Check the top paragraph of my profile to see my general trading desires. If you're uncertain about what trade I might be willing to take, just drop me a note and ask. I'm sure we can work something out.

I'm getting several trade offers every day and have a backlog of about a week of offers. I think the site is very popular now and lots of offers are going out. The problem is that the site doesn't detect if I've already agreed to send a card out. It does say (only if you are countering) that there are cards in other offers. Not nearly as helpful as if each card was checked to see if it was in your inventory before accepting an offer. That alone means every card needs to be checked for every offer to make sure you can complete that offer. That makes replying to the 25+ offers very time consuming.

I've been bad with this lately. (I have one pending now but I need to pull the cards before I respond.)
I will say this - a message to the prospective trader before spending the time to create the proposal (especially in my case) is recommended. I never do a transaction proposal without confirming first that the other member is interested in trading with me.

-- Dan -- Note: Please see my profile for more info regarding trading (section updated 10/25/2023). I have added a large portion of my inventory to the site, and currently have trading turned off (details are in my profile). I have (finally) unearthed my 2 very large boxes of Star Company minor league sets and they are available (email for details).

I give it a week and if I don't hear back I withdraw and delete.

I'm with Dan (vrooomed) at this point. Once you get over 100K cards listed on here, floods of proposals happen and it is hard to keep up with them. Offers come in faster than I can deal with them and then people at the bottom of the list start getting mad at me that they took too long to contact me. I turned off the trades and now send offers based on PM or forum requests. I NEVER sent proposals before this year, but now I feel like having trades turned off allows me to deal with each person individually and help them the most that I can in any transaction. That also allows me to know that they are the only person who is currently looking for those cards from my collection.
As far as the OP, I've never had anyone ignore my proposals as I didn't send them. BUT I have had some senders ignore a counteroffer. If it sits there for 2 weeks and they have been on the site every day with no reply, it gets deleted!

As a rule of thumb I acknowledge the proposal message them and if I have things piled up or am going to be away from home I will let them know. I had a couple offers pop up just as I was getting ready to go camping/fishing for a couple days, so I let the person who made the offer know and dealt with the trades afetr I got home.
When I make offers I give them about a week and if the other party has logged on and not even bothered to respond I withdraw them.

For those who withdraw a request after waiting a week or so:
if you see a new trade match with a member who has totally ignored a previous request, would you consider offering the new trade?
