I just sold a 2000 Fleer Adrenaline autographed insert of Trevor Meyer on ebay to THE Trevor Meyer. :)

He's still active in "flatland" BMX riding, 20 years later, according to the inter-web.  It sold for only for $1, so I hope he feels better about getting a good deal, while not focusing on the lack of interest in his card from other bidders.

It made me wonder if some of these recent million-dollar card sales aren't secretly the work of the actual athletes or their equally, albeit ten-percent-equally, rich agents.

That is a pretty interesting story. Congrats on having such a cool oportunity as this one. Very few people could say they have ever did something like that. I imagine you are correct though and it is the athletes or people close to them who is driving the prices on some of the cards.

Funny, last year I sold a Matt Andriese auto to a Matt Andriese.

When I lived in Florida (this would have been 1990), Mark Carreon's brother used to come to the card shows to buy his cards. I used to give him the ones I had. The first time he came by was really funny - he asked me "Have any Mark Carreon cards?" And I looked at him. Gave him the double look, and asked "Related?" That's how I found out he was his younger brother. Really nice kid. He was probably like 16 or so at the time.

Then, more recently, I had a HV Renegades playing card set that I had uploaded images for here - and one of the players who was in the set wanted a set - and his brother contacted me through TCDB asking if I'd sell him the set. One of those rare times I sold something I didn't have doubles of, but knowing it went to a player that was in the set (and that I actually saw play and rooted for) made me pretty happy about giving it up.

I've had Georges Laraque, as well as relatives of other hockey players contact me through the TCDd looking for cards that I uploaded images of. 

These are all great stories.  While I haven't sold directly to the actual athlete or their family.  I have helped direct Minor Leaguers or their family members to sites other than ebay.  I'd see the request of someone looking for a card, and I actually find it entertaining to go to all the others sites I know other than ebay and let the person know where I found it.  

I used to work with a lady whose husband's sister is married to Kyle Gibson.  Gibson used to pitch for the Twins but is currently playing for the Rangers.  Whenever I made an order on SportLots I'd try and find a Gibson card to include in the purchase. After I got about 40 different ones I passed them along. Her husband was surprised and excited to get them, which made me happy.  A couple of months later when the Twins were in KC the couple drove over to see him pitch. The Royals won that night but my friend brought me back her ticket stub which included Kyle's autograph.  It was my turn to be surprised and excited.

The son of a not-well-known NASCAR driver commented on my website surprised that I had his dad's autograph.

On my side, I traded cards a few times with someone who works for a MLB team and I still have his business cards. During the overproduction (junk wax) era, I also dealt with another individual who used to operate a card store before he get his current job for a NHL team. A former NHL player also gave/sold his card collection to my LCS a year or two ago and I have some cards in my sets coming for that collection.

That's really cool. I've never had much of an opportunity to interact with athletes before but I'd love to change that. The closest I've gotten was a meet-and-greet with Jed Lowrie at Hadlock Field when he was in AA in like 2006, but I was only a young teen so there wasn't much of an exchange.

Also, Joey Terdoslavich is my third cousin, but I doubt he has any idea haha.
