I've been looking to complete for about 5 years now (when I got the mostly complete set from my wife's uncle). I have several sets I'm looking to complete, but nothing that I'm looking at in particular.

Well-said. When '72 Topps arrived, they were a total game-changer for us kids. Topps really put a lot of effort and innovation into that set with the design and subsets (In Action, Boyhood Photos, Traded cards). That set is so distinctive and fun. I'm also working on it with 84 cards (preferably NM) needed to complete the set plus some of the variations.

I asked about the '72 cards because I was amazed at how many are on want lists.
It's like everyone decided to build at least one at the same time!
Another interesting thing about the 'most wanted' baseball list - if you scroll a few pages past the plethora of '72s, you will discover lots working on 1970, 1971 and 1967 Topps.
Let's hear it for underrated 'modern' vintage!

The 72 Topps is my favorite set.
I was 12 when I ripped open my first pack from this set.
My set is 8 cards away from completion (not including the variations).
I have ~200 to trade including 3 Hi-Numbers (the dreaded Hi-Numbers)
Below is my #788 Willie McCovey In-Action.

If the font was corrected in that McCovey In Action card, that would make a really nice custom card. You make it yourself?

I am working on the set but from 1969 to 1974, it is the set I am furthest from completing sitting at 113 wants. It is not my favourite set though it does set itself apart with the design.

I wasn't collecting in '72, so I wasn't aware of it until probably '88 when I returned to collecting. At one point it was a favorite of mine, but the more I saw it the more I came to dislike the front design. It was replaced by the colorful '75 set, but then I settled on the black borderless '71 set as my favorite of the '70s.

Andy,
Yes, I made it myself. I used to do a lot of work for Upper Deck when I was with HP.
If there was card such as the 72 McCovey In-Action, that was never produced, I would create the card and go back to the press room and punch out a couple dozen.
One day the Upper Deck team came to the site, an made stack of cards for all the HP'ers that worked on their project. Good times from a different era.
