I currently have estimated 1500 football cards and about the 6000 baseball cards. For those who have used this site often and for a long time, am I better off taking the time to add every card to the database or just creating a thread saying "hey I'm selling so and so team, sport, person, etc... I dont know if I am near completion on any sets I was more of a collect by team kind of guy. Thank you

However, if you list some general stuff here in this thread and it goes, that's a few cards less that you have to list on the site

I'm mostly organizing over adding right now.

Having everything already listed is definitely a huge help! If you part it out by team/sport/person, you could get more requests than you can handle and also have multiple people wanting the exact same cards. Much harder to keep track of who wants what (and who asked first) when you are adding the cards by request. Adding them to the site depends on how you have them sorted at home. If you have them sorted by team, add a few teams to your FS/T list and then post a thread about just those teams. If you have them sorted by sets, add all the cards from several sets and post a thread about those sets. If you have them by person, add everything! Unless every person is a superstar, you'll get rid of the good stuff to player collectors and be stuck with the commons b/c only set and team collectors want them. But those collectors want to buy in larger quantities to complete their sets (base sets OR team sets). I've sold thousands of cards here in less than 2 years and I'm not even a seller (usually). Having over 50K cards listed for multiple sports and non-sports has certainly helped me move stuff fast. I hope this info helps you some.

Just my opinion but if you are coming here to sell your cards you may have come to the wrong spot. I am of the opinion the vast majority here are traders, not buyers. I have completed over 100 trades and I have never been approached with an offer to buy cards. I'm not saying it can't happen, I just haven't experienced much of that. I imagine you could try an approach of offering up some sales but if I were selling and wanted to move them fairly quickly I would try to sell locally. I also don't know that I would spend the time to enter everything into the database if you are just looking to sell.

I, personally have had mixed results on the Selling front. My massive inventory does lead to better options for bulk buyers.
For ex If I posted I have a bulk lot of '88 FLEER BB to sell/trade I would get more interest in buying than trading. Especially with an enticing offer.
I presently have early '90s Hockey and Basketball ready to sell, 100 cards to 1000 cards just sitting in the respective cardroom waiting for interest when posted. It works!

I haven't done too many transactions on here (about 75)...and I think I have only done 2 cash transactions. One selling and one buying. One I am still waiting to complete (me buying)......but I think you are correct in that most of the members here would much rather trade as opposed to sell cards.

There are a lot more buyers on here than many of you realize. Lots of collectors these days only chase the cards they want and do not buy packs & boxes (or lots) to have traders available. Even with as much variety as I collect, I find people wanting cards I have but they have absolutely nothing on my wantlist to trade. With a wantlist of about 250K cards, it's hard to believe that someone would have nothing on my list to trade to me, but it happens often. I never tried to sell cards (anywhere) until a couple of years ago. I only wanted to trade. But now I'd rather help someone out who wants something of mine, even when they have nothing for my collection.
Taking the time to add everything before opening the floodgates to traders AND buyers is the way I will always work from now onward. It's much cheaper to ship someone 100 cards at one time than to ship the same person 10 cards at a time in 10 different packages! It's also cheaper for everyone to trade that way.

I inherited a card collection upon my friend's death. I do not collect but I value the cards for other collectors. I joined just to sell. I took the time to list every single card on this database so that those who need something for their collection can obtain it. I have over 15,000 baseball cards, not including 4 other sports. I don't list the duplicates on here.
My suggestion is to list every single card, there are short cuts to make it pretty easy and fast.
Good luck!
