Long ago, my parents bought me a complete set of 1977 Topps baseball (my birth year). My new goal is to complete the same sets of basketball and football. With basketball, do I target 1976-77, or 1977-78?
Thanks!

If its to honor birth year... were you born during (or closer to) the 76-77 season, or the 77-78 season? i.e. begining of the year or end of the year?

the stars are much more expensive in 1976-77 (and they are large format).
I like the large ones, but not as much as the other years in 70s
but my real answer is....do both!

Your profile says you're an April birthday, so definitely 1976-77. In my opinion.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

You were born (released) in 1977. The Topps baseball set was released (born) in 1977. The 1977-78 Topps basketball set was also released (born) in 1977.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

With the 76 cards format they are really unique, so do both.

There's also a 1977-78 Topps hockey set that looks somewhat cheap since it doesn't have any major rookies (but it does have Bobby Orr's final Topps card). The 76-77 has a Trottier RC

Thanks for the comments everyone! Seems as though I will pursue the 76-77 AND 77-78 basketball sets, the 77 football set, and maybe throw in some hockey too? Ha.
