Hey Folks -
I'm a base set collector for the most part. I'm curious if others include both the error and correction cards in their sets or just one?
To date, I have considered completing the base set to mean I have 1 of every number in the set - and I paid little attention to if I had the error or the correction. I'm debating about whether to clean this up and start collecting both the error and the correction for all my sets.

I'm a set collector also. I'm the one who tries to chase both versions (ERR and COR) for a set, but that's just me. A lot or people here will do like you did, one of each card regardless of version.

I'm picky about the VARs I'll chase. "Fronts Rule" for me, for example:
- '74 Topps San Diego/Washington variations
- '91 Donruss factory/pack variations (but not the Inc and Inc.)
- '93 Stadium Club stars/no stars
- '82 Topps auto/no auto
For ERR/COR on stats if I have them I'll generally keep them, but rarely will chase them. Occasionally I will add an ERR/COR that I don't necessarily want to balance trades if needed.

It depends. If I have the COR version of a card for a set but the ERR card interests me because of a reversed negative or a wrong photo/name or something like the legendary Bill Ripken, I'll see if I can grab one for cheap. If the error is a wrong statistic on the back but the front is exactly the same, whatever version I have is good enough for me.

I'm pretty OCD about wanting to have all of the errors/variations in my collection when the error is obvious. When it comes to something like the late 80's/early 90's Donruss, unless I can get an entire set of the variations at one time I don't bother to try and get more than one. The differences between the versions just don't interest me all that much. But, for some reason I have three complete sets of 1990 and 1991 Topps Update, each with different backs. So, I'm kinda all over the place.
Point being...collect what you want!!

I generally go by card number...if I have each number, then I'm happy. I will look for them if I come across a stash of the set, and I've found several in my duplicate stash that I didn't even know existed until I saw them listed on here.
I will put them on my want list and will trade for them, but I will consider the set complete without them.
One caveat to that is where a card got the wrong number and more than one card exists with the same number, like happened in 1997-98 Z-Force and 2003-04 Victory in the NBA. Both players are required then, and luckily I already have all four affected cards in my collection.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. Set collector here as well. If I happen to get a SP or SSP for a modern set I'm collecting I generally will keep it but I don't go out of my way to get all of them. As others have said I'm generally happy to have one of each number.
It kind of depends on the nature of the variation. Where there are different versions of the same card (example 2002-2003 topps chrome where there are variations of english and foreign langauages for some rookies) I get tempted to grab both versions.
I think everyone has to make a judgement call on these things.

Generally want both versions, but despite being ocd, I don't stress on it. As an example, I've considered my 1982 Fleer complete for awhile, even though there are a couple variations on my want list, and I do still want them...

I was a total SET collector up to the '90s when collecting went crazy. From that point on, I pick a representative set for that year and add it to my collection. I also collected assorted cards from other sets just not the whole set. That inludes RCs and Major Stars, HOFers etc.
Since I'm an avid ERR/VAR/COR card collector, I will trade, buy, sell all these cards. I keep all ERRs, VARs, and CORs in an album side by side, by year and maker. I will go out of my way to collect all that were produced. So it stands to reason I have an inventory beyond many collectors. I also collect "variations" that are not accepted by TCDb guidelines. [see Informational Posts in the forum.]
The ERR/VAR/COR albums are the highlight of my PC, any visitors to my Cardrooms always want to look at these albums.
