Now I don't mean the obvious. College teams or pro teams. I'm talking odd collections. Love to hear the craziest theme collection out there. All these Ryan Leaf cards and RC's that busted made me think of it. Here's 2 I thought of. 1. Biggest jerks in sports. Leaf would be up there. 2. Biggest 1st round busts in sports history. He'd be on that list too. It actually sounds fun. Anyone have any themed collections??

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff. I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards". How apropos!!! Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.

Not as unique as you're probably looking for, but I collect players who ONLY played for the New York Yankees. The most unique player I've found meeting this criteria is George Halas. Yes, Bears fans- that George Halas. He played 12 games for the Yankees in 1919. His only major league experience.

Only in the digital list form. That's one reason I love this site, we can make lists like that without spending too much money on 'gimmick' collections. But for those that do like those types of collections in hand and in person, I won't be critical, since collecting is really all about what makes you happy!

Sometimes I do "Themed" binders. I made one with just hockey goalies and another one with baseball catchers who had to be wearing the "Tools of Ignorance" in order to be included. My most recent one is tobacco sized cards. My LCS actually had binder pages that fit them perfectly. I filled it up with a bunch of my favorite tobacco sized cards. The cards range from the early 20th century to the present day.

special themes I work on are:
John Riggins (9 of each card for full binder page)
Memphis Tigers (college) baseketball- one of each NBA player that played there from each year
2006 WS champion STL Cardinals- team set, plus for each player, collect backward and forward 1 topps base from each year (now only Pujols and Molina still active)

Player affiliated with quirky trivia. It started Lena Blackburn, the guy who invented the mud they rub baseballs with. Then it was the two guys who were traded for each other between games of a double-header. And I've looked for cards of players with similar stories ever since.
And my collection of all the players on the field during Merkle's Boner, of course....
Do those count?

I have a misc card binder that has various errors in it. Included in there are some pages for people with "funny" names. Some hockey cards with cool board advertisements showing. Redemption/Trade cards. Things like that.
I've seen on some blogs people have some interesting themed baseball collections. Like guys sliding into a base, or pitchers batting. Always great ideas out there to do something different.
