I was just thinking about the card that started me down my road to collecting. It was in 1980 that I really started to collect and the card I wanted the most was a 1967 Topps Carl Yastrzemski. He was my favorite player from my favorite team and it was his triple crown year. I took all my doubles to a local flea market and was able to traded for one (which I still own). All this time later, that Yaz card still holds a special place in my collection.
What was your starting point? I would love to hear your stories.

This card.
My best friend's brother pulled it from a wax pack, and I spent all my nickels trying to get it and never did as a youth. It wasn't until I bought three wax packs of '86 Topps football and pulled two Jerry Rice RCs, that I acquired the Hayes RC by trading one of the Rice cards for it.

Maybe not one card specifically, but I remember it was getting Milwaukee Brewers cards that came with loaves of Gardner's bread when I was a kid that sparked my interest.

I started to collect in 1981....I remember having STACKS of 81 topps all over my bedroom and getting packs everytime we stopped at the convient store or anywhere really :) What started it for me after that was I bought a bunch of 1975 cards from a friend for $20 back then....making almost a complete set. After that I picked up a 1950 Bowman Pee Wee Reese at a show for 50 cents just cuz I liked the Dodgers... it's a beat card (creases and rouned corners) but I have thought about getting it graded

I do not sell/buy cards, my sell/trade lists are for trade only. Thanks for your understanding.

I spend the entire summer of 1967 trying to get a Mickey Mantle card. This card was in the 2nd Series, so, when the 3rd Series began showing up in the local stores, I thought I would never see it. I finally convinced a friend into trading me his Mickey Mantle (the exact one seen above) for a 1967 Topps Harmon Killebrew and a 1967 Topps Roberto Clemente. The search for my first Mickey Mantle card was the catalyst for a lifelong obsession for collecting baseball cards.

The '68 Brock. A buddy of mine said he had started buying packs of cards and this was the first one he showed me. Living in St. Louis, I had to have the card. Tried and tried to buy it from him but he wouldn't do it so I started buying packs myself. I've been hooked ever since!

Really couldn't say exactly. If pressured I would probably have to say 1965 Topps Baseball Ernie Banks, or 1968 Topps Baseball Hank Aaron.

I remember being about 6 opening 95 collector's choice baseball and topps while going to camp. Spent hours opening packs and looking at the stats on the way.

Mine is a 1964 Pete Rose. I remember going to a garage sale with my Mom in 78 and there was this entire box with about 400 1964 Topps and about 50 of the coins for 0.10. In this box was a couple of REDS including a Pete Rose saying he was a rookie and here he was with an almost 40 game hit streak going, would wind up even higher, how could I not get this for for a dime. Unfortunately the 64 cards are gone, but that is what got me hooked looking at all the stats and I could take a coin and rub the back and find out more interesting information.
