Don't just look at the set name and card number when entering into the database. I've found so many parallels that I didn't realize I had. If the front of the card looks different from the rest, it just might be. Use the card number filter after typing in the players name to see all possibilities. All I have to say to myself is WOW.

Not the first one to make that mistake. I just received a large trade where there were 2 cards that were not what they were supposed to be. In both cases, they were a parallel of the base set.

Happens to me all the time on SportsLots. I order the base of an insert, I get the parallel(s) instead. I have a handful of insert sets I could be done with minus those. What I ran into on here when trading are the ERR/VARs. I'm the dreaded collector of them (see my forum sig), but not as bad as others. Numerous times I get them offered in trades only to get a different one than offered, one I usually have already...

That is why I keep saying that when there is a VAR of a card, both cards need to be marked as VAR. This way, when I see that in a trade, I look to make sure I am sending the right VAR. If the first card is not marked as a VAR, then when I pull the card, I may end up with the wrong one especially if it is not something very obvious like a different image on the front fo the card and instead is somethign miniscule like a different font. But for some reason, people don't buy the fact that if there is a VAR, both are VAR of each other no matter how common or rare one is.
C'est la vie!

So right Bruno I agree. If not VAR something to show it the basecard (common) in the set.

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards

Just for curiosity, when there is a trade offer, why does the VAR not show up with the card? I've noticed that before but never requested it to be added.

Only Note 1 shows up when in a trade but only if it is marked as being a VAR. If all variations of every card were annotated as such, then it would alert an individual to check which version of the card is being requested.

What level access is needed to make those changes? I'd be more than happy to add that info for the cards I have.

Not sure but I think Permission Level 4. Basically you have to have the option to Edit card Note fields. But I had brought this issue up once before in the Forums and met a lot of angry resistance. So I did not bother going any further with it.

It is quite annoying when you get a trade offer, you go to pull the cards and find that there is a VAR on one or more and you have to search out every card just to figure that out. I actually had one trade cancelled because of that. I questioned which version he wanted, his reply was to cancel the trade.
When I started my project that is just completed, many of the VAR a's didn't list as an a, but b, c, d & e did. That is where the problem is. I even found some early Topps that have multiple cards with no VAR listed. There are also many cards with VAR that don't state what the difference is. Not really helpful there! Even if one of the two VAR's has an image, a simple description is helpful. I understand if there are no scans submitted for a card, how do you know which version you have? I only want to make this easier for everyone who uses the site. I'll take it upon myself to make changes to the ones I have because I can clarify the info. It's not like renaming sets or parallels or even renumbering them, it's just adding needed info.
I will "test" out a few cards to make sure I'm getting the info in correctly, then go from there.
