I'm trying to figure out how this site works. There are lots of vintage cards that I'd like which are in Poor condition, which is fine because they will be used for a project. I'm just curious as to how the shipping is done. Are all the cards located at one facility, so that they can all be shipped at the same time?
Thanks for looking, Eric

They ahve started a mail to box option (kind of like COMC) but not every seller uses it. So option is not always avail. I used it for first time, but buy so little that i had a notice that i needed to ship because it was not being used becuase i was just having the individual buyers ship to me.

From what I understand, all of the cards are at the individual seller's locations. Sportslots has two shipping options. One being a direct shipping option coming straight to you, the other being a box option. The direct shipping option usually has the shipping costs higher than the box option. The box option is a consolodation point that the sellers can offer a cheaper shipping costs. They can usually combine multiple sales to the box option passing those savings onto us, the buyers. I know it is more involved than this, but this is the Reader's Digest version. :)

Sorry guys, but what both have missed on saying is that if you choose the "box" option, you pay for postage 2 times - once to the box and once from SportLots to you. In some cases this is a better option, especially if you are getting from multiple sellers who do the box option all at the same time (and are doing a large amount and they charge very little to use the box option).
They were correct in that each seller maintains their own cards (a la ebay). It is NOT like COMC.
So, your best bet is to try to minimize the number of sellers ou are buying from. Sometimes that means paying a few cents more on a random card from Seller A because Seller A has 20 cards you want but Seller B wants 95 cents to ship the single card. Better to pay 50 cents with Seller A (since you're already getting more there) than the 18 cents plus postage with Seller B. You have to pay attention to these things there.

-- Dan -- Note: Please see my profile for more info regarding trading (section updated 10/25/2023). I have added a large portion of my inventory to the site, and currently have trading turned off (details are in my profile). I have (finally) unearthed my 2 very large boxes of Star Company minor league sets and they are available (email for details).

When I place an order, I want the cards quickly, so I rather not go the "cheapo" method. Also as said, try and put your order thru a single seller.

Absolutely, I forgot that. I just paid for my box yesterday too. LOL I definately saved on shipping costs. I usually buy from sellers that are among the lowest for the box option, including free shipping. I had almost 350 cards that I just shipped home for $9.82. I saved over the direct option almost $50. I prefer it over eBay by a wide margin. Buying these specific cards would have been a lot more expensive on eBay too.
One of the only things that I guess that I can say that I don't like is that you are buying cards without seeing them. Yes, there are a few images, and you can message the seller at any time, but for the most part, you are buying a card blind. So far, it hasn't bit me too much. Just once or twice, I thought I was buying a VAR or parallel card, but it turned out it wasn't.
As far as comparisons to COMC, I haven't dealt with it too much. I need to figure out some details about a few things before I proceed and so far, Sportslots has a lot that I am looking for. I will eventually get there, I'm just not in a hurry.

I got to finish a thought before sending... :)
One of the other things that I like about Sportslots is that most of the sellers offer loot. It is a credit that you can use for a future order with them. Some offer bigger percentages than others, but that also goes into my decisions on which seller to buy from. I have a couple of sellers that I have almost $5 in loot that I intend to use on a future order. I don't know if COMC does something similar. Ebay does the bucks thing, but that only credits once every three months.
I'll think of something else in a few minutes..LOL

I prefer budget shipping directly from the sellers and to keep the number of sellers I ordered from the lowest at the time. If I buy from seller A in Los Angeles, seller B in Chicago and seller C in New York, I'll get three packages (one from LA, one from Chicago and one from New York). Sportlots Box is a PO Box in Wisconsin where sellers ship to and consolidate orders out there. Sellers postage is lower as they split postage sending many orders at the same time, but Sportlots shipping to you is not that good. I heard no positive comments yet on that service, but it doesn't mean everyone is unhappy with that box service. Also, if you watch their auction site, they often have lots of abandoned cards for auction. It seems lots of people prefer to give up the cards they paid for rather than paying the fees Sportlots wants.
