Like some others here, I think it's time for me to cut back a bit on trading and card related activities..This is an awesome site and I enjoy trading but some of the excitement for me surrounding trading is wearing off..I think one of the signs was seeing packages in the mailbox and then dreading knowing that it meant filing away the cards, etc. I will admit that I've done a massive amount of trading in the last 3-4 months but overall, I think it's time slow down and get the spark back for the hobby..
And how do you get the spark back? I've seriously been considering moving to being a one sport collector (probably hockey which is my number 1 sport that there are cards for)..growing up in the Detroit area, it was tough being a Lions and Tigers fan and I never really got into the Pistons other than when they won their championships..But I have inlaws who are Canadian and remember really getting into hockey in the early 1980's when the Red Wings were the "Dead Wings" and have been a Wings fan ever since...
I've done a few trades lately that involved 1970's hockey cards and it was a bit exciting to get cards for guys who are now owner's, managers, GM's or other hockey execs..and being a Wings fan, seeing some of the earlier Wings hockey cards was great..
So, unsure yet what the future holds..
I am curious though how many true one sport collectors are here? I know it may cut down on my trading partners and have me doing more North of the border trades...

I'm not a one sport collector but I will say by far I prefer football. I too have slowed down as it's been busy. I know for me I think I prefer smaller PWE trades and I kind of prefer only having one trade going at a time. I just wanted to share the one trade at a time as that seems to suit me best.

I am a one sport collector. Actually I am a one team collector. So it is hard to find trade partners because I have such a small amount of cards to trade and only looking for one team. That just means i only have one trade going on most of the time

Completely understandable. I'm doing the same thing. At first it was b/c I had so many cards that still need to be put in the right places. But after my laptop unexpectedly fried the other week, I should lay off for money reasons. Not like I'm in a bind but I don't want to get to that point.
I also only do one trade at a time (at least until the trade is packaged), but I prefer much bigger trades. A few cards here and there doesn't excite me at all. But a stack of them does. I just need a break until I get all these cards put away. I collect 3 sports and some non-sports stuff too, so at least I have variety in what needs to be put away.

I am one sport as well -- baseball. Although I will scoop an interesting PSU/UVA football, Eagles football, or Flyers hockey card if the price is right.

lol I WAS a one sport guy but it seems that hockey has given the backroom to some oddballs by the name of football, baseball and basketball. My wife has seen the idea a bit more clearly and thinks that maybe this collectibles shop / sports cave might be a neat idea.

One team collector here I have been for several years now. It is getting harder to make trades here appears I have run everyone out of cards I need. The last few months I have slowed down the time that I have been putting into trading.
We all hit the wall but we just need to work through it the best we can.

I have to admit, I've been feeling the burnout for most of the year. I did it to myself. Last year's Card of the Day project - where I got at least one new card every day of the year - turned getting new cards from something fun and exciting into a chore.
I've still been doing card stuff because it's pretty much all that my health problems allow me to do, but I'm not really enjoying it at this point.
I got burned out in 2006 and walked away from the NBA, which was my main collection, and I now consider that one of the biggest mistakes of my life. Honestly, part of why I keep on doing what I'm doing even though not really enjoying it is because I think about how much that break I took from 2006-12 messed up my collection and even my life. (I robbed myself of years of enjoyment)
I've actually stopped buying new cards, and I went months without buying any vintage cards. I have so many already, and thousands upon thousands I was bought or given that I've never even seen yet, that if I get the itch to get something new, I just have to reach into the box. The problem is that I don't have that itch right now.
But I know myself. My interests are cyclical. I'll go crazy with a hobby where it's all I think about for days or even years, then I put it away and don't touch it for years. That's how I've always been, likely how I will always be. By keeping doing cards when the interest is mostly not there, it's kind of an experiment. I'm curious to see when I get the enjoyment back. I know I probably will, eventually.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. One other thing I want to add...the Cardboard History Gallery (link in signature)...that is keeping me going. I'm still in the process of building it- it's going to take me over a year to build!- it's everything I've ever wanted to do with the scans I've made of my collection. With it, I can easily go and look at any part of my collection without having to go searching, hunting for a single scan amongst a sea of other scans. If I want to see a specific player, team (if applicable) or set, I can just simply navigate to them. And there they are, all in front of me with a single click. I still have a long way to go, as I'm only about 2/3rds done creating it, but seeing it complete, and working on completing it, THAT is my driving force right now. I completed the Teams section first off, then I did all the cards by set. All I really have left is by person. It's 1/3rd of the website, but it's going to be one of the most labor intensive, because there are thousands upon thousands more people than there are teams or sets. EVERY person in my collection will be getting their own album...even for the sports I don't actively collect or watch.
I've gotten the Non-Sports and miscellanious sports up. I've done A and B and started C in auto racing. I have not begun basketball or hockey yet, the two largest groupings. (over 5000 people!) I did put up my mom's favorites in each sport on her birthday this year, but I still have so many more to do.
Even the people that I have not uploaded yet, I've done the work of copying and pasting each scan into a folder, so I can see how it's going to look even though nobody else can- yet.
Knowing what is still ahead of me, knowing what it will look like when I get all that scanned, that is what's keeping me scanning and going now. I am just working on a big batch of mostly 1986-87 Fleer to 1990-91 Fleer and Hoops, and all the sets in between, that are very nostalgic for me, but I had set aside because they were already done on here. Putting them into their proper place, that's a lot of fun for me. Soon...I hope!...they will get uploaded so everyone can see them.
Knowing what's coming makes it all worth it.

Started collecting 4 sports here, back when Topps made all four sports - 1969. Now down to just Topps baseball for new stuff. Always looking to fill in the older Topps football I need (71,70, and pre 69). Started collecting other compaies in the 80's, but quit doing that, other than an occssional Donruss Lions or Pistons team set. Still have lots of all brand hockey, football and basketball to add to trade list. As for working on this hobby, that ebbs and flows with what else is going on in life. Working 6 days a week leaves maybe an hour here and there during the summer, but, not being much of an outdoor winter person, have more time in winter.
