I have a tote box of cards that belonged to my son. He’s had some of them since he was a little kid. He’s been gone for 12 years and it’s time to open the box and do something with . But what would that be? I’ve had people tell me to not open any sealed boxes. Ive had others say to only touch them with gloves on .... I have no clue what to do with them. I don’t want to make a simple mistake that could decrease the value of an important card. I know there’s Racing cards , baseball & football cards just to mention a few. Any help would be greatly appreciated , even if it just points me in the right direction.
Thank yoy.

It depends a lot on what you have; some sealed boxes are valuable while others are just worth a few bucks. More detail would get you a better answer.

I'd second what hutnut said, can't really give any advice without knowing what you have..
Have never heard the glove comment..I guess it makes sense (to some degree) but I'm sure very few cards have been handled with gloves on..
Let us know what you have!

A ton of cards I have no idea what to do with.
I see a few dale earnhardt in hard plastic sleeves. If I just grab a few we get
Dick Schofeild with the angels Storm Davis with Oakland
Dave Magadan with the Mets
Qadry Ismail with Baltimore ravens.
Greg Brock it looks like baseball. There a set of Dale sr and jr Gold cards in special folders And the list goes on.
i guess I should figure out a way to organize these I really have no idea what’s here.

Just from what you've mentioned it sounds like stuff from the late 1980s-around 2000 or so. While there are some gems in that time range, most of what was released then was so over produced, it has little more than sentimental value. If you can figure out how to post some pictures here, that would help,
When you say "a ton of cards" is that a few hundred? Tens of thousands?

There’s 5 smaller boxes just in those there’s over 2000 cards and that’s probably an 1/8 of what’s in the rest of the tote.
I will have to try to figure how to add a photo.

Where are you located? It's possible there may be a member in your area that might be willing to take a look at things with you and give you an idea if anything has value.

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards

Closer to Scranton than Allentown .... I’m north of Scranton ..... so north that I’m a mile or so from the NY boarder.
