This started with you stating that the RULE is only scans of cards you have in your possession are allowed. So, exactly how are scans/images being rejected because the submitter doesn't possess the card? Where's your evidence to support this claim. You came back with a snide "Really?" and then cite PHOTOGRAPHED cards to support your argument. To put it bluntly, you're making no sense.

I think he's mixing terms. Photos and scans are not the same thing. Some sellers SCAN their images onto Ebay. With a scanner. That flat glass surface machine with the lid and the button, usually connected to a computer. A scan. Those are okay to use from Ebay. Otherwise, unless our collective membership somehow buys or steals every 1/1 card on the planet, we could never obtain scans of many cards. Photos, taken with a camera, not a scanner, currently are not okay from any source (although improvements in technology will probably change that eventually). I'm not sure what is difficult about this.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Before the insults started going back and forth, the real question was what scans are we allowed to upload onto the TCDB site. Admin stated what the rules were as far as scans of cards one does not own and scan personally. The only part I am not clear on is whether taking scans from the Topps, Panini, or whoever prints MTG cards sites is legal. They are trading card websites so do they fall under what Admin describes as "Copying images from other trading card websites for use on this one – not legal."
I think the rest of the issue is more of an ethical question. The more scrupulous have expressed that they do not condone the copying of scans from other sources; either own the card or don't bother. Others with less scruples will "steal" scans wherever they may find them and think nothing of it as long as it cannot be seen sa breaking the rules Admin has set out. In the previous Forum on this subject, Admin summarized it best:
Reading through the thread, this seems to be a hierarchy that will take you from model citizen to increasingly drawing the ire of some of the other members:
- Good scans of cards that you own.
- Good scans of cards that you don’t own (as long as the avid collector of that player doesn't notice).
- Weak scans of cards that you own.
- Weak scans of cards that you don’t own.
- Posting the same back for hundreds of cards without posting the fronts.
- Using the backs from the base set to post into the parallels without posting the fronts.
Individually, we all decide where we wish to be seen on this list.

5 and 6 are useful to the site and don't draw my ire, for the record. Keep up the good work, I say. 3 and 4 are interchangeable in my mind, and fall to the bottom for me. Ownership is temporary. Remember, every Ebay scan, regardless of seller, was put on Ebay with the sole intent of wanting to not own the card anymore. Why should they care if we use a scan of a card that they don't want to keep? They're very petty if they do care.

Topps, Panini, etc don't have scans of cards on their websites. They have computer generated images and mock-ups of cards. And those are not acceptable.
In that other thread that was linked, someone summed it up well. The purpose of this database is to document ALL trading cards and their images. To document only cards owned by the site's members is NOT our purpose.

do
- Good scans of cards that you own.
- Good scans of cards that you don’t own (as long as the avid collector of that player doesn't notice). & don't
- Weak scans of cards that you own.
- Weak scans of cards that you don’t own.
- Posting the same back for hundreds of cards without posting the fronts.
- Using the backs from the base set to post into the parallels without posting the fronts The do's and don't are missing on the list. I can only tell you what was said to me. That is what I agreed to do. I did not jump in with the crying and name calling and don't bother reading what you wrote if you're not civil. That is all on you and you know who you are and so does everyone that read what you wrote. Sad, it was more important for you to go bashing then it was to stay on track and you got nowhere doing it. I was working on missing images and got the numbers down a little more.

What is that behind you!?! Oh, It's me! Looking at the cards you have, That I want. :)

Maybe you were doing something in particular that Admin didn't like, so he singled you out and told you to stop doing it.

RJ - Admin didn't add the Do's and Don'ts, so why do you feel like the sherriff around here? I haven't seen a single bit of name-calling in this thread and nothing has been posted that wasn't civil. Everything directed towards your replies was truth and nothing else. Why do you keep arguing with people who have been around for 4+ years longer than you?
As for getting nothing done, the OP got his answer right away: There is no way to "Credit" images on this site besides making a comment on the specific card's page. Why are you still whining about this?
BTW, I also added scans (OF MY OWN CARDS) and even a bunch of CL's since you last posted in this thread. Again, you should really pay attention if you're going to complain about stuff.

I seriously believe you don't read all the posts in this thread or many others I see you comment on. Some don't know to be civil.
As for submitting scans, I don't anymore because of many of the practices I have seen in the last couple of years, be it those loaded or those rejected by the "scan" police.
