Hey, do you any of you smart people know why on Topps Gypsy Queen, at least, they refer to players receiving a "fielding award" in their descriptions, rather than just saying the guy won a gold glove?
2019 Jason Heyward is one example: https://www.tradingcarddb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/189194/cid/12831903/2019-Topps-Gypsy-Queen-272-Jason-Heyward
Is there some weird copyright thing? That would be odd because Topps has issued whole subsets of Gold Gloves winners, in the 2002 Base Set, for example (cards 696 on).
Are they just being cute?
What is the deal?
Cheers.

I think they are trying to create time-period cards. The Gold Glove started in 1957. These cards are mimicking pre-1957 cards so the term "Gold Glove" would not have existed.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Excellent call. That would certainly make sense

I think it also has to do with the fact that it is an award by Rawlings and Gold Glove might be trademarked and Topps might not have permission to use the phrase on their cards. Same with 2017 and 2018 flagship inserts for award winners.

Dan is right here. Rawlings owns the name "Gold Glove." In 2017, Flagship had an Award Winners insert set as well, and the Gold Glove was merely called "Fielding Award" on the card. Now that I check, it's called "Golden Glove" here in the database and I'm wondering if that is accurate.

For MLB sets it should be "Gold Glove". Golden Gloves is a boxing award.
For foreign league sets it's "Golden Glove" (as printed on cards).

Thanks. Seems odd that Topps would lose its rights to use “Gold Glove,” since they used to.
Right or wrong, I like the old timey explanation.

Makes me wonder if Panini has some exclusive card deal with Rawlings. No recent Panini Gold Glove cards come to mind, but I don't buy everything. Topps does sell signed Rawlings bats on their site, so they dont apparently have heat with each other.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
