I've been on the site a few months, and have come across a few members who seperate out their wanted lists on a main account from their for sale/trade lists. So a traditional trade I can't match lists directly but have to jump between two profiles, but I have also seen it enough now to know its not entirly an anomoly. What is the benefit of having two different accounts, one your main and the other for your doubles?
fyi, I am not critizing, I am assuming there is a benefit and I am a noob who doesnt understand it.

I know it exists but I think many of them were created before the Multiple Collections option was created (though 2 members decided to create them after). I know it is a pain to try to build a trade (actually have to build 2 trades to do so).

Up until a short time ago, one could not have multiple collections - there was only an option to keep everything in your collection in your "Main Collection". So some users created a second profile to keep their keepers and traders separate.
It was always a pain trying to match up across multiple accounts, but at the time it was the best system available. Now, I'm a firm believer in utilizing the multiple collections feature for the same purpose.

Nec Aspera Terrent I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

It used to be easier to log collections and tradelists that way. (It took me a month+ to enter my Tradelist and I know there are people with a ton more listed than me). Now that having multiple collections is possible, that's not really needed anymore but I'd guess the people who have them have too much work into them to abandon them. I know that had the multiple collections feature not existed I would likely have started a second account for my Tradelist. Instead I started a new Tradelist collection, and that made it super easy. I now just navigate to that page, add whatever I have to add to the collection, then move entire collection to Tradelist. When I rentered the Tradelist, what took more than a month before took me 6 days using the new collection, and I also took some time to add things to the Tradelist at that time.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. Just sharing my view from someone with a single account. I will trade with someone with multiple accounts if they have something I really want but I also many times will look else where first because I find it extra work to compose and work trades and I would rather avoid it. I suspect multiple account users miss out on some potential trade offers because the trade is a little cumbersome.

Drew, I can't answer why they do it that way, but I will share how I trade with two or three of them.
- I must have the transaction I'm composing with their "Trade List ID":
- I have a second tab opened to their "Match items on your For Sale / Trade list to items on this member's Wantlist"
- I then will be able to select the cards I want from his trade list using the "Match" option
- I'll use the "Browse" option when offering him the cards he needs
If something's unclear, please let me know and I will try to explain better.

I suppose that if a person had done this before multiple collections existed, they could trade all their cards to the other profile as an easier way of moving them.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Well that answers it. Thanks guys. I was thinking proposing two different trades, one going one direction and the other going the other... Hopefully they would see both and figure out what was happening...but maybe this early on I just stick to the simple stuff. I'm not trading fancy or complex stuff around at the moment, so there are no particular cards I need so badly as to try too much risk.

I too have multiple users. But found it a bit hard because I was always moving cards as I had it set up that other account had the completed sets. now everything I hope is on this account into seperate collections. Now just wish we could get rid of all those varitions Topps put out. If I get the card mark it as a HAVE and then it shows up, but I do have the option to show just All, Haves, wants, In Transit ect on a checklist

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards

Before proposing a trade, and spending that degree of time, you might want to just drop them a note to see their interest level in a trade involving both accounts.
My "2nd" account is really inventory that my best friend turned over to me before he moved (stuff he couldn't take, but obviously couldn't bear to toss). I actually did a trade with someone who has two accounts, and so it wound up being 4 transactions. A little complicated, but we were both fully onboard with making a trade (and if the opportunity arose to trade with that member again, I would).
All of my own cards are on this account, under MANY collections. I love the feature. I was a big proponent of getting on here, and kept in constant contact with Admin about getting it off the ground. If that had been part of the DB from day 1, I'm sure it would work differently, but considering Admin had to essentially patch it into an already existing, working engine, it's really quite phenomenal.
If anyone does have 2 accounts and would like to merge them into one using the multiple collections, PM me, and we can figure out the way that wuld work best for you and the accounts.

-- Dan -- Note: Please see my profile for more info regarding trading (section updated 10/25/2023). I have added a large portion of my inventory to the site, and currently have trading turned off (details are in my profile). I have (finally) unearthed my 2 very large boxes of Star Company minor league sets and they are available (email for details).
