After a completed trade yesterday, my collection was brought back into some balance, with Braves cards outnumbering yankees cards again. I recently bought a small collection and as a result have a collection profile that looks nothing like what I am working on. Still have an obtuse number of Nomar and Sammy Sosa Cards, given I don't seek collecting either, but at very least my Braves have taken back the top spot on the team stats.
Got me thinking, What weird quirks do people have in their collections, that they never set out to have but have?

I have way too many cricket and rugby cards, though I don't collect either sport. Mostly from purchasing complete Euro multi-sport sets to get golfers when singles aren't available or I want to compile a checklist.

I ended up with foosball player cards from the 80"s that aren't even in the database as of the last time I checked. It is on my large "to do" list.

I have more Michael Jordan cards than any other person. (more than 1200) I am not a big fan of Jordan's.
My favorite NBA player (Elton Brand) doesn't crack my overall Top 10 and only got into the NBA Top 10 thanks to several COMC binges, and has a rather tenuous hold on the spot. (The Database lists a 24 card edge over 10th place, but not all of those actually count- some are team cards, shared with other people, or college cards, none of which count towards the totals to me. It's probably closer to 5-8 cards in reality)
I have accumulated more than 2000 college basketball cards, with 95% of them coming from repacks.
I've accumulated more than 2000 baseball and football cards even though I do not collect those sports, and I accumulated exactly 3000 NHL cards before I began watching the sport. When I say I will take ANYTHING, I mean it. Several hundred of them were rescued from being thrown away.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. Yes, it's the Yankees problem. And other teams. A couple years ago, I discovered that my beloved Cubs were, I think, fifth on my list of teams. I put some effort into remedying that and got them up to second, but I'll never catch the Yankees, a team I generally dislike and certainly do not collect. Other than that, I have control.

Even though my collection on the site doesn't show it yet (deleted collection and started over), the top people in my collection are the top football players of the early 90s. Sanders, Smith, Montana, Marino, and Rice specifically. Also a large number of Herman Moore and some others whose last names start with M or after. Turns out, alphabetical football star box #2 was accidentally left behind on a cross country move, and my parents put it in storage with my junk-era doubles that I intentionally left behind. My main collection didn't come back to Illinois with me, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that football box a decade later, when I assumed my only cards were water-damaged 1993 Donruss and the like.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

As a setbuilder, I have not set out to collect Detroit Tigers cards specifically, but being in that market area, I would have thought things would shake out with the Tigers outpacing even the Yankees. But local dealers and showfolk separate Tigers cards out of their lots, so I wind up with them being at 16th out of the 24 "regular" teams.
Also, I don't have any important cards.

Being a Red Sox collector, I find it amsung that I have over 1100 Different Mantle cards, which is nearly as many as I have for both Yastrzemski and Rice combined!
