Main reason is for cataloging, I am still entering my collection as I get time and once I am all done doing that I will start concentrating more on trades. I get them from time to time and some a patient some are not. It is not my primary reason for being here. The friendship and posting is now the other reason. But if it were not for this site my Ranford and Oiler RCs would be a mess!!

I joined because of checklists. It allowed me to organize my collection. The last couple of years I have been trading to reduce the amount of extra cards I do not need.

I'm here to get someone to send me a Willie Mays RC as a PIF!
Seriously, I just recall finding this site as I inherited my home office from my then soon-to-be-married daughter and searching for cards to decorate. Then I started logging cards to get organized, and then...on Christmas Eve 2016 I made my first trade. It was with Madballboy and I sent him 18 1984 Topps baseball cards (at the time my oldest cards) for a mixture of 20 80s and 90s Astros.
Now I'm here to trade, log, help, and enjoy retired life with the help of TCDB.

I'm here for the community and the vast information. Mostly, it entertains me. I had my collection well organized and catelogued before I got here. Now it's all done electronically, too. I essentially have my collection with me wherever I go, which is handy at times. I've learned a lot about the cards I have and discovered others I want through this site. I kind of like seeing others' collections and approaches. Hearing what they care about. Then internally mocking it! A bit.
I've traded a little. But somehow it doesn't work for me, financially psychologically. I'm sending people cards AND paying for shipping. Somehow it's easier to just buy and sell them on eBay. I also don't have much to trade. But I'll trade if it works out.
Mostly, I'm here for the entertainment value.

I'm here for everything the site has to offer and everything I can offer to the site. I started here to make it easier for everyone else to see what I have to trade and what I've collected. I already had everything catalogued on Beckett but only paying members could see what I had. I needed a way to show collectors on other sites what I have and this is it.

I'm here to trade! I'm looking for missing cards and trading my extras to who wants them, is cool. Every week I'm adding a set or two to my inventory of what I'm looking for and what I have to trade. In the few months I've been here, I've completed quite a few sets. Something I could not do going to card stores. After hearing no we don't have that one either too many times. I was looking for cards on the web and found this site and thought. Wow, I can trade my extras to people that want them and find the cards I'm missing from home is brilliant!

What is that behind you!?! Oh, It's me! Looking at the cards you have, That I want. :)

As most expressed in a previous thread, I was first here to identify cards I had but did not know their origin. Then when I saw what the site offered in tracking a collection, I used it for that and proceeded to upload (and then delete and reupload) my collection, traders and want list. I learned how to contribute to the site, first adding sets and checklists, then images. Now i use the site in many ways already expressed - tracking, trading, information, and friends be they real or digital.

After the fiasco that was the Beckett upgrade several years ago, that trashed their collecting database (prior to the company being sold to an investment group), I figured I should spread out my efforts to track my collection online. Of the options available, this site seemed to have the most promise as far as an active, and capable, owner. Other sites may have had larger user numbers, or a bigger database (at the time), but none seemed to have the combination of enthusiasm, programming support and positive attitude.
So I joined here, both to track my collection, but also to contribute to the database the less mainstream stuff in which I was interested (minor league, foreign and regional oddball stuff). And as a result of the great group of members here, I think this is probably the best database available, as well as one of the more resistant to plagiarism-related lawsuits.

I'm here to make sure that everything I've learned about cards over the last twenty years is recorded for future reference. What attracted me here over any of the other crowd-sourced efforts is the inclusion of all of the ancillary items. The adverizing inserts, redemption cards, pack wrappers, boxes, sell sheets, etc., are all important parts of my collection. The fact that this database was already set up to accept those types of items really impressed me.
I'd love to do some trading. I've got many of my traders listed, and all of my wants too, but so far I've been able to make only one trade. For one card that the other guy needed. I traded it for money.
Oh well, I guess I'll get back to adding checklists and Info now.
