Year: 1997

Set: Fleer (Rate)

Card: #463 Joey Hamilton

“ This set was great for autographs. [though I'm not a guy that chases autos TTM or IP] "Mat" finish on the cards as opposed to glossy. I guess the hobby didn't like that, because I can't think of another set like it. ” -abide

“ I tend to flip-flop about this set. Looks wise it is very plain, but I do like me some good old Fleer from time to time. Plus I like the flat (aka Non-Glossy) finish to the cards. ” -captkirk42

I remember this matte finish feeling so weird. And found a lot of the cards were dark, so the in person autos didn't always show up very well.  But I like the non-flashy design.

A clean card, though I'm not sure I can always appreciate a card which is portrait one side and landscape on the other.

I hated this version.

I love the tiffany version of this set.

One of the biggest sets of the late 90's. I lucked out because I started building this set by pulling a bunch of series 2 out of a dime bin at a show and a David Ortiz rookie slipped through. After that the set was easy to put together. I think I was stuck on a Jeter subset for a while. The cards were such a weird stock that they were hard to sort through because of the finish of the card.
